1. Did they do anything on ANWR tonight?
My little little daughter is watching a cartoon movie with her sleepover buddy )... so I can't turn on the local Anchorage news...

Unless I go upstairs to a different tv..

But I don't feel like it right now.. :7

Do you know if they wound up taking any action an the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge one way or another?

Thanks!

3. It's not over yet
but it looks like it's getting tacked onto the defense spending bill.

Apparently, they rushed in 45 pages of stuff they wanted to sneak it at the last minute.

6. That's what they do
They either rush it in first thing or last thing. *sigh* Just like the "Patriot Act." All they care about is their corporationist buddies so they can get rich. I wonder how many of the republicans there now are involved in the Abramoff case.

7. Thanks much for the info pro!
As you can imagine.. any news regarding the Arctic Refuge here makes massive news on all the networks.

I just found a blip on one of local tv stations saying that they'll probably vote on it Monday or Tuesday ~~> http://www.ktuu.com/cms/templates/master.asp?articleid=2642&zoneid=1

You know.. living in Anchorage, I can't say I don't use the freebie fat checks they throw at us (every resident/every single October_... (money from oil revenues).. but I don't agree we should drill Arctic Refuge. Too many scientists and geologists have shown data proving that at the most, they'll only get a year's worth of oil out of that area.

Do they listen up here? Helllllll no

2. Eisenhower is the one who said no drilling in Anwar
Because that part of the country needs complete protectionism for commercial interests.

He was a true patriot.

4. I didn't get that either
Oh yes. A little bit of oil out of such a wonderful place is national security. What a doofus! What about spying on Americans? Or how about lying about war? Nah?

8. And the evidence presented tonight...
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 02:42 AM by lady lib
Something about the German's losing at The Battle of the Bulge because they ran out of gasoline. Got that? Connecting the dots? Me neither.

9. That was a bizarre analogy
I guess he was meaning that we would run out of gas, leading to a defeat in Iraq. But, you certainly could go in a completely different direction with that.

10. Is Alaskan oil being exported?
I've heard that a substantial amount of Alaskan oil is being exported, primarily to Japan, but I've not been able to find any reliable evidence to support such a claim.

11. National Security?! How?!
1. Estimated volume: six months worth of oil, if that.
2. We plan to SELL the oil to other nations, e.g., Japan.

Ergo, they're LYING to us again!!!!!

12. IMHO... it will be....

.... a matter on national security someday.

Right now, oil is still available to us. There will be a time, be it 5 years, 10 years or maybe 20 - when oil will be a truly precious commodity that we really do need for our national security.

What ever happened to saving for a rainy day? These people claim to be "conservatives", but they consistent toss every positive trait a conservative should have into the junk heap.

13. Are there big ships with self-inflating rigs pre-positioned off the coast?
Then how the hell do they think that drilling can bring any immediate relief?

These people are either trying to pump up the sheeple volume OR, once they get the toehold, it will be like Uncle Ernie, too old to thrown out in the street, too young for a dirt nap. You gonna be stuck with this biatch for generations.

14. That will be so much oil!
Look at how independent we will be.

While some folks desperately cling to the belief that oil is a renewable resource, others hold on to the equally delusional idea that tapping the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve will solve, or at least delay, this crisis. While drilling for oil in ANWR will certainly make a lot of money for the companies doing the drilling, it won't do much to help the overall situation for three reasons:

1. According of the Department of Energy, drilling in ANWR
will only lower oil prices by less than fifty cents;

2. ANWR contains 10 billion barrels of oil - or about the
amount the US consumes in a little more than a year.

3. As with all oil projects, ANWR will take about 10 years to
come online. Once it does, its production will peak at
875,000 barrels per day - but not till the year 2025. By
then the US is projected to need a whopping 35 million
barrels per day while the world is projected to need 120
million barrels per day.
