Cheney In Iraq - * To Make Address Tonight - Is Something Else Going On?..
Are they planning something? Are we going to invade another country - Syria? Iran? Is this an attempt to minimize the lying, spying and torturing and killing? Is something else going down today?

2. It is a full-court press to appear in touch and on the ground with
the Merican Peeple.

Nothing else is working so they are reduced to doing the things they most detest.

in Iraq. Then pissy-pants was forced to address the latest flap over spying on americans instead....

His speech was a little hissy-fit and his visible anger was commented on by ALL major media sources (except Faux) so now he wants to present his happy-face "Victory" speech.

10. They're just catapaulting the Iraq election propaganda
good for maybe a 1-2% bump up in the polls but the continued death toll now will really start hammering at the approval rating.

What major milestone is left in Iraq for the American public to grasp onto? None. The public will now see a more immediate need and desire to withdraw from Iraq.

13. Be careful ...

The righties will accuse you of "wishing for failure" or "hoping American troops will die".

You always have to proceed this with "I hope it works" and than conclude that you really doubt it will.

Indeed I hope this election works. But honestly, I think the only thing we are accomplishing in Iraq right now is forestalling a full-out civil with the blood of American soldiers.

I don't even think we have to "fix Iraq" anymore because it's clear the Iraqis don't want our help. We broke Saddam Hussein. Saddam Hussein was holding a fake country together through brutal repression. The resulting chaos of people determining their own political identity is not something we can affect. Only the "Iraqis" can fix Iraq.

I think declaring "Mission Attempted" and pulling out is the only course of action now. The Iraqi people must determine their own future.

16. Considering the choices for candidates, there's isn't much to crow about
Allawi? Former Baathist thug and bankrolled by the CIA?

SCIRI/Da'awa together on a ticket? That's sure to instill confidence in Iraqis. :eyes:

11. They're changing the subject ...

They're getting hammered on this spying without warrants thing. Bush is going back to the well for yet another Iraq speech which typically gets him a little bump until we all figure out that everything he said was a lie (Iraqis leading US special forces into battle).

15. Coincidental timing and budgets?
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 03:32 PM by higher class
They could announce the war on behalf of Israel against Iran which just happens to COINCIDE with the pull out of troops from Iraq - outsourced think tankers for the Pentagon calculated what it would cost to bring our kids home from Iraq and decided they could save some money by moving them next door.

This speech MIGHT end up being called THE TIMING IS JUST RIGHT speech. They COULD say that that they have just found that Iran is not 10 years away from having nuclear bombs - they are only 10 months away = and Bolton has the proof which he will present to the UN this week. Dick is briefing the generals. Condilie will brief Congress, etc.

OR - because they seem to be having problems scheduling George fund raising events for private audiences, thay are going to impose George on the country - again. And he will throw in some "Look at me - I am your savior - bacuz I know how to deal with tearists and you need to lissen to ME and Dick".
