Poll question: What races in your area do you think will be competitive in 2006?
Edited on Sat Dec-17-05 11:34 AM by ih8thegop
By 'competitive' I mean that there is a real possibility that either party could win the seat.

In Grand Rapids, Michigan, I'm a little worried about Jennifer Granholm, with the economy and the wealth of her Amway Ayatollah opponent. My GOP congressman is almost certain to win, unless he retires. Debbie Stabenow will only lose if someone like Candice Miller flip-flops. So I will vote that only the governor's race will get competitive next year.

1. This is Texas.
I -think- there's a chance to unseat Gov. Perry and Rep. Tom DeLay.

I wonder if SCOTUS will declare DeLay's redistricting law unconstitutional.
That might change things for Texas even more.

2. Let me go off the deep end here and please
no one have me locked up, but if Trent Lott chooses to not seek reelection (a possibility), his senate seat may be competitive down here in Mississippi. Just a little optimism on a cold Saturday Morning.

4. That's not off the deep end
If Lott retires, Democrats Rep. Gene Taylor, Atty. Gen Jim Hood or Fmr. Atty Gen. Mike Moore would be strong candidates to run.

3. Here in Arizona
Pederson will give Kyl a run for his money (literally and figuratively). And, I think Pederson has a very very good chance of winning.

The governor race looks like a shoo-in again for our outstanding Janet Napolitano!

5. In California
I think we should have good Governor's race between Arnold and Treasurer Phil Angelides.

8. Should? No, WILL!
As it is, Ah-nuld isn't popular. Tookie's execution didn't help.

9. Maryland - Keep Senate Seat, Take Back Gov!
Our goal in Maryland is to hold on to Sarbanes' Dem Senate seat and take back the Governorship from Gov. Haircut. The good news is that the Dems have good candidates running for each office. The bad news is that there are multiple good Dem candidates, leading to a potentially divisive primary. Myself, I don't know who I'd choose for Governor - Martin O'Malley (Mayor of Baltimore) or Doug Duncan (Montgomery Co. Executive). Probably Duncan, because he's had a longer track record and he's from suburban DC. For Senate, it appears that Ben Cardin (AA Co Rep) is the heir apparent, but Kweisi Mfune is making some positive noise. Especially because Steele, the Repug Lt. Gov. is running for Senate and he's a two-percenter.

10. I live in Oklahoma
Although we have a Democrat for Governor, every single county in the entire state voted for Bush in 2004. We have two of the most insane Senators in Inhofe and Coburn, and these people think James Dobson is a hero. No wonder this state is so backwards........

11. I'm in Florida
We have 2 strong candidates for Governor, and I hope Rod Smith takes it. I can't stand Jim Davis. Bill Nelson should be a shoe-in to keep his senate seat against Katherine Harris.

In the 5th Congressional District, I'm working for John Russell's campaign to unseat repug swine Ginny Brown-Waite. And we have a great organization, and a very good shot at winning it all, even though we have a primary opponent.
