Kudos to the voters in Iraq. They want a piece of the pie...
Rhetoric aside, elections are about determining who manages the national resources and the national framework, as much as possible. The Iraqis are fully aware of that. They've been around this block before, elections or no.

The Bush Administration's use of vague, evangelical "spreading democracy" talking points is understandable as a public relations ploy, but I doubt that's on the minds of neighborhood Iraqis. They know what works at home. Participation in this election is a part of that. They want a piece of the pie.

Kudos to them.

1. I hope they get their 'piece' and we get the hell out of there.
I wish no ill will towards Iraqis. If anything, we owe them a lot for screwing up their country so badly and killing so many people. And the man responsible for that should pay.

2. I agree we should leave. They'll work it out. We patronize them to say
we have to stay to make things better or whatever. Yeah, we've done the damage. I think American financial support to the new, independent, democratic Iraqi government would be appropriate to support reconstruction of the country.

3. The * responsible for that never paid for anything his entire
pathetic life.

Who will change that?

(Good point.)

(There's always a "first time.") :applause:

4. We'll stay until the oil is gone to manage corporate profits
for global corporatists. I hope the Iraqis are strong enough to demand a share of the profits, like our Alaskans.

However, the rest of the U.S. has let their oil profits go straight to the corporatists, bypassing our citizens completely.

5. Geez, "global corporatists" are becoming straw-men for a number of issues
I understand the opposition to WTO policies - and, more on point - their effect on developing nations' economies in relation to the developed nations' economies.

But to make this an issue in the Iraqi election misses one salient fact. Lot's of Iraqis voted, not on the WTO, not on the role of "corporitists" in their country, not on anything other than a possible parliament. Give 'em a break, for crying out loud.
