We have to do better than this
When all respondents were asked who they would trust more with national security, 67 percent said Bush and 21 percent said Dean. When asked who they would trust more to handle domestic issues like Social Security, health care and education, they picked Bush by 50 percent to 39 percent.

In a head-to-head matchup, Bush led Dean by 55 percent to 37 percent. Few in the poll, including Democrats, knew a great deal about Dean and his positions.

5. Perhaps
or perhaps it shows us falling into the trapset for us in 2002 - when w went after anyone who did not support his ugly little venture in Iraq or vote fast enough to give Ridge the biggest ORANGE dept in history.

They lied like troopers and as a result we are running away from Candidates with the background to take them on where they live - both domestically and abroad.

You say folks don't know Dean - well just wait until the right spends their 200 million defining him.

8. The right will spend $200 defining whoever is the nominee
so get over that.

They all have their flaws.

Anyone who thinks the time from nomination lock to November is going to be anything but hell on earth has not been paying attention for the last 10 years.

I think all the "new activists" in the Dean campaign (and I'm supporting Dean) should watch the first 15 minutes of Saving Private Ryan over-and-over-and-over again.

Ask youself how you would have handled it. And think about the upcoming Summer From Hell.

I think the Dems can win with Dean. Or Clark. But it won't be pretty. I think anyone who thinks this is going to be an endless series of meet-ups over lattes had better get themselves ready for a big helping of ugly.

3. I know it's hard to realize...
that people aren't paying attention yet, especially amoung political junkies like here at DU. But really, people aren't paying attention yet. It's the holiday season, then New Year's, then the kids are back in school, then there's summer vacation, then the kids are back in school, then there's Halloween..........then there's an election.

We political junkies don't realize that other people do indeed have lives.

ON EDIT: I wonder what it feels like to care about something other than politics.

6. How's it going, brainshrub?
Mills River got around 1" to 1 1/2" last Friday, enough to get the kids out and let them sled down the hill for a few hours.

7. You have to talk carefully
to non-political junkies or they start rolling their eyes. But I did talk with a co-worker today, and told him about Shrub's remarks to Sawyer. He responded "Well, Saddam was an evil man." I responded with "Well, so are Kim il Jung, Charles Taylor, and any number of other tyrants. The point is, should we have gone in unilaterally? Doesn't that set a dangerous pecident for other tyrants?" His response: "You know, you're right. We went into Iraq on a lie. That's not right." I won't talk politics with this guy again for a couple of months. I've set him thinking, and that's all that matters.
