(Rant) don't try scoring points w/me saying, "fire the NY transit workers"
especially in view of the fact that the MTA reported kept an illegal separate set of books and they aren't hurting for money.

It's really frustrating hearing non-unionized worker drones parrot the GOP line: "If they strike, fire them all!" Aside from the fact that doing so won't accomplish anything, and won't make a bad situation better, it's like I'm talking with people who have been brainwashed, because encouraging such actions only makes a drones job security more precarious, in a general sense.

off-rant - thanks for listening.

1. You cannot be a good Democrat and a liberal if
you say fire workers on strike. That is one of the biggest sins one can commit. If someone says to fire strikers, they are not a liberal no matter what their thoughts are on other issues nor are they a Democrat.

I suspect anyone here that wants to fire strikers has a whole lot more views that are completely incompatible with being a Democrat and a liberal. Not even Joe Lieberman would say to fire the strikers.

2. NY Transit Workers marched in DC on 09/24/05 to protest the war

I think they deserve our support.

4. hear! Hear! Sick ot the union bashing that goes on.
the MTA has shown itself - more than once - to be utterly untrustworthy. First crying poverty and then all of a sudden finding the money for their Christmas metro card stunt (I don't mind a dollar fare but I ain't gonna miss it if they didn't do it either).

I suspect it's part of the emerging class warfare state - they don't have the right degrees they don't come from our group they don't have mba's they should be made to stay poor.

5. If the transit workers strike
I will be inconvenienced BIG TIME...but I am in total sympathy with the union on this one. They are getting screwed over and the mayor and the governor are no help at all! Where the hell are our leaders. The union asks Pataki to step in and help and he says "no, but remember it's illegal to go on strike". What a horse's ass that one...Then Bloomberg, with his millions, going on and on about how we're ready for a strike and we are NYers, we'll pull together. Yeah...I'm sure the strike won't affect him much...Everything I've heard come out of his mouth has been antagonistic toward the negotiations.

I feel bad for the union guys if it comes to a strike, especially for those who don't want to strike. This is a god-awful time for them to be out of work and incurring crippling fines on top of it. The MTA better start bargaining in good faith here and our leaders better start leading...

I'm not at a union company now but I grew up in a union household. Yes, there is corruption but there also needs to be someone who will stick up for the little guy.
