Condi and her staff don't like the food on Air Force 2

http://alternet.org/blogs/lfiles/29516/

Say What? The WaPo edition

The newspaper stumbles on an important and yet under-covered aspect of Condi's international jaunt: airplane food.

I'm hardly a puritan when it comes to fluff stories -- especially at a time of relentlessly bad news. But something about WaPo correspondent Robin Wright's lengthy article complaining about food served on Air Force Two smacks of bad taste:

"Of all the contentious issues on any trip by the secretary of state, food tops the list. Despite the heroic efforts of dedicated and good-natured military crews to craft miracles from abysmal menus, Air Force Two's food has become notorious."

Hmm, I could swear there was one other "contentious issue" dogging Condi on her trip. Let's see, what was it ...

Almost everyone has a story, comment or recommendation. "I don't think you understand the depth of hatred for wing-dings among the staff," said Jim Wilkinson, one of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's inner circle. "We're not sure what kind of wings they are. Some people hate the meatballs, but most hate the wing-dings. They violate the laws of war, the Geneva Convention and the international convention on torture. They're sooo bad."

Right! That's what I was thinking of: wing-dings.

6. No, that was what the Gitmo prisoners eat...
lemon chicken and rice pilaf. Our soldiers don't have it that good (and neither do the prisoners).

12. The food is good on the bases, but out in the
outback it's going to be MRE's.

I always heard that Air Force and Navy food is the best of the branches.

5. Damned good idea
Many commanders throughout the past have made a point of doing just that, eating what their troops eat. They did this for two reasons: 1. To show they are no better than the average soldier; and 2. To know how the troops feel and what they can physically accomplish.

The plutocratic elitism of the current cabal in the White House is out of control. :grr:

4. Well in the interest of neighborly citizenship, let's all --
-- throw a huge potluck for Condi and her staff.

We wouldn't want the poor dears to be disgruntled about the choice of meals.

Or we could all just send her a favorite dish. I like the idea of thousands of freezer trucks lining up at her Washington office jammed with potato salad, jello dishes, meatloaf, 5-bean casseroles, and so forth.

Chow down, Condi darling.

14. Who do Condi and her staff expect to cook for them?
Emeril, Wolfgang Puck or maybe Anthony Bourdain? Personally, I'd prefer Anthony Bourdain. He has attitude. Wait a minute. Both Anthony and Emeril are of a Frency background. You couldn't pay Wolfgang Puck enough to cook for that crowd.

19. Anthony Bourdain!
He'd probably prepare a pretty good meal. But I'm sure he'd come out of the kitchen to give a personal greeting--a cigarette in one hand & a drink in the other. He does have a way with words.

18. Interesting comment coming from a Bushie regarding the food:
"...They violate the laws of war, the Geneva Convention and the international convention on torture. They're sooo bad."
They would know about all those violations now, wouldn't they?

Please let this nightmare end before 2008.
