Federation of Republican Women is asking Arkansans to paint their right index fingers purple to show support for a free election
being held in Iraq on Dec. 15.
In a series of free elections that began on Jan. 30, Iraqi voters, their fingers marked with purple ink to prevent them from voting more than once, have braved threats of insurgents and attacks to cast their votes.
On Dec. 12-15, purple right index fingers will be the fashion statement of support for Iraqi freedom, Anne Britton, Arkansas Federation of Republican Women president, said in a release. "On Dec. 15, the people of Iraq will risk their lives to vote. For the third time this year, the brave people of Iraq will go to the polls to determine their future and form a democracy under their new Constitution. Every time Iraqis voted (they) have done it in the face of death from the terrorists. They are at risk for several days after, until the purple ink is gone. The least we can do is to show support here, raise a purple finger for freedom and show solidarity with free Iraqis in the upcoming election," Britton stated in the press release.
People who want to participate can find purple ink at Office Depot and Sam’s Clubs and almost everyone with children has a purple marker, she said in the press release.
