Bush takes Cheney out of loop on national security (Dick made me do Iraq)
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 10:33 PM by hadrons
The role of Vice President Dick Cheney as the administration's point man in security policy appears over, according to administration sources.

Over the last two months Mr. Cheney has been granted decreasing access to the Oval Office, the sources said on the condition of anonymity. The two men still meet, but the close staff work between the president and vice president has ended.

"Cheney's influence has waned not only because of bad chemistry, but because the White House no longer formulates policy," another source said.

"There's nothing to input into. Cheney is smart and knowledgeable, but he as well as Bush are ducking all the time to avoid the bullets."

....

The sources said Mr. Bush has privately blamed Mr. Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld for the U.S.-led war in Iraq. They said the president has told his senior aides that the vice president and defense secretary provided misleading assessments on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, as well as the capabilities of the regime of Saddam Hussein.

This is from the Moonie Times, so if this is remotely true even the wingnuts can't make Dumbya look good

3. Bush blames Cheney and Rumsfailed for the war.
Then what the hell did he let them do it for? Christ, does the man not have a brain in his head? HE was selected for the job. Color me disgusted.

9. He can't.
You can't fire your boss. Cheney and Bush are so closely tied together, that by firing Cheney he'd end up shooting himself in the foot.

No, Bush is secretly hoping that Cheney goes down in the Plame leak and it stops there. I wouldn't be shocked if Bush even cut a private deal with Fitz not to dig to deep into Bush's involvement (i.e. keep him out of it and paint it as all Cheney's fault) and in exchange he'll testify. He wants Cheney to go down, and if Cheney goes down he can't really say anything to get back at Bush because anything he says will only end up incriminating him as well.

Then Bush is hoping to blame Iraq on Cheney and Rumsfeld and appear as if he was "failed" by his advisors. When really it is his own failure for allowing them to have so much authority in the first place.

What is REALLY interesting is now to watch them turn on each other. They are under a lot of pressure and the heat is only going to get hotter. Who is going to crack first?

It's ghostly echoes of Nixon, with the exception this time we aren't talking about a third rate robbery.

6. *LOL* I figured this would happen.
Bush spent most of his time in lala land with his head in the clouds. He let everyone else worry about the "details" of being President while he went off and did his own thing. He came out for speeches and campaigning and public appearances but behind closed doors it was a Cheney/Rove Administration with Cheney and Rumsfeld working on the War and Cheney and Rove on the Domestic front handling the politics and formulating how to spin policy.

Now that Bush's approval has bottomed out and getting lower with every poll its become increasingly harder to keep him inside his little bubble. Now that he realizes that the majority of Americans thinks he is shit, and are going to label him the worst President in American History he's pissed. Now he's gotta dodge all the shit flying his way, while distancing himself from the very people who caused it, while at the same time knowing damn well he's going to take the wrap for it.

Ahhh, Georgie the jokes on you.

8. Rumor is, they're sleeping in separate bedrooms.
It's a bit worrisome, though. How many times has the philanderer told his girlfriend, "Oh, honey, my wife and I never get together sexually anymore! She's cold... YOU'RE the only one I sleep with"...

and then the girlfriend suddenly finds out the wife is pregnant, and then the girlfriend wonders who the daddy is, and then the girlfriend sees her lover proudly claiming the baby...

In the above scenario, um, I think WE'RE "the girlfriend".
