4. He's not very liberal ...
... on most things I hold near and dear. I suppose I would support him over a car killing Frist or that nut Santorum ... but, that' not saying much

10. I'd rather have a "car killing Frist"
than the cat killing one we're stuck with! Meow!

3. He is said to be pretty conservative on many issues.
I admire what he's doing about Iraq, but we might not agree with him on some other important matters.

We need him to whip the Congressional Dems back into shape.

8. Forget about it
this guy is totally conservative - just because he gave one good speech about the war does not give him credentials

if the Dems do not put forward a progressive democrat this time I no longer will support the party

look what repuke light has gotton us - 2 stolen elections and an insane war just to mention a few disasters

at McCain.

12. I was thinking more of the seniority factor in Congress. . .
If, G*d willing, we win back the House in 2006, he's probably going to be House Armed Services Chairman, AND call the shots to Bush re withdrawal of troops from Iraq!!

:kick:

13. I think his position on the war is great, but he's way to conservative
Its interesting how so many people are fawning over Murtha, who got a rating of 50 percent from the ADA (and 30 percent from the American Conservative Union)last year while at the same time they want Lieberman, who got a rating of 76 (and a zero from the ACU), thrown out of the party.

Heck of a way to try to recapture control of Congress.

There are other potential candidates who meet the standard of being honest without being that conservative.

Plus he is not interested. No way. This is the act of a man of good conscience doing one last parting service to his country.

ADA is America's oldest independent liberal lobbying organization. In the spirit of the New Deal and ADA founders Eleanor Roosevelt, renowned economist John Kenneth Galbraith, and former Senator and Vice President Hubert Humphrey we lobby through coalition partnerships, through direct advocacy, and through the media. Our lobbying philosophy is based on democratic action - motivating our grassroots members to lobby their senators and representatives as constituent-advocates. With 65,000 members nationwide, numerous state and local chapters, and its headquarters in the District of Colombia actively engaging in the political process, ADA continually strives to push for democratic and progressive values and ideals in American policy. Our founders included Eleanor Roosevelt, labor leader Walter Reuther, economist John Kenneth Galbraith, historian Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., theologian Reinhold Niebuhr, and former Vice President Hubert Humphrey.

18. Do you know his positions on any other issues?
I don't. I'd never heard of him until this.

While it's great that he's out front on the Iraq war, I'm not sure it's wise to start talking about President Murtha unless you know his record.
