Kerry on the Today Show
Kerry on the Today Show
December 1, 2005

John Kerry was on the Today Show this morning discussing Bush’s speech yesterday and his own plan for Iraq. Matt Lauer asked this morning “What would John Kerry do?”

Lauer: “The President laid out what he calls his plan for victory in Iraq yesterday in his speeech… He said he wants to get to a point where Iraqi forces can stand up so US forces can stand down; but he was unwilling to set a date for that. Is that your major problem with his speech?”

Kerry: “No. My major problem with the President’s speech is that it does not recognize the problems on the ground which his own generals have laid bare to the US Congress and the American people…”

1. Go JK !
It is painful to even think about the counter-factual: What would have been if Kerry were in office. He went to Iraq to visit soldiers last December and I think he would have done the same if he had been getting ready to take office. I think US soldiers would have been out by now if Kerry had been allowed to take office.

4. If Gore had been in office there would have been no 9-11.
He would have implemented the urgent measures in the HartRudman Report on Global Terror within weeks of reading the documents handed to him on Jan 30, 2001.

Bush refused to read the report.

5. Oh, and he didn't turn the whole interview into a sound bite frenzy.
How dare he speak out and sound so articulate and intelligent. "we don't understand him", or(because we don't want to take 30 seconds to actually listen to what he is saying? )This criticism of Kerry doesn't say much for our education system in this country.

6. Was the tie okay?
Yesterday the only thing they could come up with was complaints about his tie. Well, until Kos gave them the stifle Kerry talking point.

9. Go to Kos
I couldn't possibly do his "Kerry should shut up" ramblings justice, or relay them without bias, or whatever.

11. It might still be on the front page
Something about "bogarting" the limelight in regard to the Dem rebuttal yesterday. Some rumor from the vicinity of Harry Reid (staffer maybe, but it was an anonymous source) saying that there were rumpled feathers because Reed (note spelling) was supposed to give the rebuttal by himself and Kerry sorta barged in:

and mussed up Reid's (note spelling) plan.

Be that as it may, and I suspect it was somebody's interpretation who isn't terribly fond of Kerry in the first place, I'm not sure Reed would have gotten the same press.

Kos, Reid and Kerry are all on the same side. They all need to remember that.

10. "We're all going in the same direction"
That's what Kerry has said. Pelosi has said she supports Murtha's plan and the Senate can speak for itself. There are a group of people who are making these hair splitting differences a huge deal, but it isn't the Democratic leadership.

12. No they're not. Why spin?.They disagree a LITTLE and agree ALOT and Kerry
said so. He said they share common goals.

What is the problem with those of you who never even bothered to know that Kerry sumitted a withdrawal plan that is DOABLE last October and again as a senate bill on Nov 10?

He worked months on his plan and you want him to shut up and go away?

Do you know that Gary Hart and Tom Hayden both support Kerry's plan?
