Poll question: Who will be the first black President or Vice-President (Democratic)
Who will be the first black President or Vice-President?

I'VE PUT DEMOCRATIC BECAUSE...PLEASE I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ANYMORE ABOUT CONDI RICE EITHER RUNNING IN 2008 OR SOMEHOW BECOMING VICE-PRESIDENT BEFORE 2008...OKAY? The FIRST person to comment "CONDI" is going to be subjected to a SEVERE UBER spanking...and I DON'T mean maybe!!

I personally think that the first black President or Vice-President is going to be Congressman Harold Ford Jr. of Tennessee. Hopefully, Congressman Harold Ford Jr. next year will become SENATOR Harold Ford Jr. replacing that motherfucker Bill "Cat Killer" Frist.

I really like Harold Ford Jr. a lot, I think he's a good fellow and he's VERY photogenic...I admit I think he's very pretty *swoon* I think he's more handsome than Senator Obama, I really do.

So, why not get voting?

1. it hurts to say this
but I don't think we will find out in our lifetime unless you are W-A-Y young! And a women might run, but will lose. It is still the old WASP's nation and if they can't win it, by God they will steal it (Diebold, etc) Don't get me started, haha....

4. On December 22nd I'll be
27...so I'm young still...so I DO think that in my personal lifetime, yes I'm going to see the first black President or Vice-President AND the first woman President or Vice-President.

I believe this in my heart, because we know it's the correct way to go.

Yeah, I answered that post about Condi being from Birmingham...and I'm very sorry about that, that Birmingham is unfortunately associated with her. Birmingham's such a nice place, she's NOT worthy of any association.

On Edit: Dammit spelling error.

That name come from? Condoleezza, or however you spell it?

Have you ever heard of this bizarre name previously?

Hey, she was born in Birmingham, Alabama...but she's SURE paid a lot of money to get rid of her Alabama accent, yes?

Condi ain't Southern no more, she's from California and DC.

I'm a lifelong Dem and an old guy. I'm a yellow dog Dem in thought, word, and deed. But I really, truly think the first black Prez/VP will be a Repub.

To win, a black presidential candidate will have to peel away middle of the road moderates and independents. A progressive black Dem, I'm sorry to say, won't do as well at that as a moderate black Repub.

Just my humble opinion. Your mileage may vary. Hope I'm proven wrong.

Add on edit: not even thinking about a particular candidate.

16. I think it will be Barack Obama and I think it will be within 20 years....
God willing, I'll live to celebrate that wonderful day.

I think Obama connects with people in the same indescribable way that Bill Clinton does. He seems like a "real" person and has a media presence that any politician would give his eye-teeth for. I'm really hoping that Tennessee is ready to elect a black to statewide office.

Sadly, my state of Mississippi is not that advanced. In 2003 we elected as state treasurer a 31 year old Republican with 3 years banking experience over a eminently qualified black Democrat with 30 years banking/government/administrative experience. That was a truly embarrassing day for my home-state, and I hope Tennessee can do better.

Edited on Fri Nov-25-05 07:57 PM by ...of J.Temperance
Run for Lieutenant-Governor and she lost to that idiot Amy Tuck who'd switched parties? Was it Blackman, Blackmon (sic)?

I think every other Democrat that year, apart from Governor Ronnie Musgrove won too.

I was thinking that Harold Ford Sr was the Senator before Frist...but I might be wrong, I'd have to check up on that.

Don't worry Rowdyboy, it'll happen :)

On Edit: Dammit, I'm doing simple spelling errors here :(

37. Actually, Barbara Blackmon was my state senator when she ran....
Even though she was well financed, she ran a very poor campaign. While I supported her, I was disappointed that her campaign was somewhat incoherent and unfocused. There were so many reasons to vote against Tuck and Blackmon really didn't attack meaningfully. That said, Tuck's association with Barbour made them virtually an unbeatable team.

Harold Ford Sr was a US Representative before his son took the seat. Ford's uncle is a Tennessee state senator also, thats probably who you're thinking about. I don't believe there's been a black statewide officeholder in Tennessee since Reconstruction, and I'm not even sure about then.

Yeah, Mississippi will grow up someday. I just hope I'm still around to enjoy it.

A Tennessean has a better shot - believe me. It would encompass the Gore revenge and the fact that, well, he's not from "up North."

Until we can get rid of the "elite Yankee" meme... a Dem from "up North," isn't going to win. Sadly.

43. Prefer Obama as President (from the first time I saw him in 2004)
I hadn't laid eyes on Obama until last years when he gave this amazing speech at the 2004 DNC. I've been keeping a very close eye on this guy, and i think he should run for president in 2008.

I like Ford too, but I prefer he run for the Senate. I just do. Seems like Ford's got a little bit of baggage he's having to bear from his fathers election campaign dealings from recent article i read a couple of days ago. So the KROVE machine will make mince meat of that even though it has nothing to do with Congressman Ford, the son.

But I just prefer Obama as leader of the Free world, though I wouldn't mind it if Ford were his running mate, i think probably Ford is better running for Senate because if Obama runs for prez, the Senate will need someone like Ford to replace him.

thaz my 2 cents... ;)

44. I like Obama better
and I think he's one of the best speakers in politics today.

I still remember that amazing convention speech. Sure, there have been some votes I disagree with but overall I like him. I also think he can connect with regular people.

Ford is a bit duller, and seems more like your typical politician. I also don't like his voting record much. I understand you have to be somewhat centrist in Tenn. but I can do without some of his Bush praising comments. :puke: I will give him credit for his getting visibly pissed a few days ago. Didn't expect that.

I give Obama the edge though.

46. Absolutely.. Ford is a good Rep for his district - (I guess) but does not
have the "stuff" that Obama already possess. I think Obama is getting up to speed on Foreign Policy issues very quickly.. He's working on Nuclear Non-Proliferation, went with Lugar to Russia, got detained (arrested) which I'm sure opened his eyes to a few problems, to say the least. I also listened his report from that trip. I like his approach with Condi Rice, in terms of the most pertinent questions, and concerns. He might not be "seasoned" enough in some eyes, but I think that he needs to be encouraged. He certainly has a hell of a lot more in his little finger than that MORON in the white house now.

47. Sadly, I remember this talk about Wilder (D gov of Va)
didn't happen then (granted he didn't have the personality of Obama), and I don't know that it (black - or female for that matter) anytime soon. Just don't see our population being that evolved, yet. Too many years of politicians pandering to base codewords to make prejudices "safe" through "couched terms"... has prevented real growth in terms of accepting and supporting anyone but white-males for the highest seats of power.

I very much hope to be proven wrong on this - I think we miss out on the potential leadership of some phenomenal individuals due to our country's collective prejudices.
