Newsweek: Dems 53% Repubs 36% ...Don't believe the hype.
This post at MyDD shows that Democrats actually ARE gaining on generic polls.

This poll has Dems at 52%, Repubs at 37%

ABC-WaPo 11/02 52 37 12

More here.

"Voters are turning to Democrats as they turn away from Republicans. The first place one can find evidence of this was in the 2005 elections, where Democrats did very well across the country in actual elections. One would think that these results alone would have dispelled this myth, but apparently not.

The second location one can find evidence of this is on polls for the 2006 elections. Look for example, at Polling Report's new feature, a summary table of generic congressional ballot polls for 2006. Here are the results from the past month"

12. On jury duty Monday, the judge instructed us on the importance of our vote
as a juror, telling us that the courtroom was the only place where you really have one person, one vote. Then she said (paraphrased): "in the United States, your votes are counted (except for one state, which I won't mention)...."

I was so shocked to hear a judge say it, I burst out laughing. :D

17. That I do...San Francisco
She must be one a' them "activist" judges. ;)

I was a bit disappointed I didn't get picked as a juror (the trial would have run too long, and my company doesn't pay); it promised to be interesting in her courtroom.

3. I believe it.
People can't be stupid enough to follow modern-day Repukes anymore.

Of course, they'll unleash ads across the country around election time stating that Democrats want to take away your guns, give them to gay illegal immigrants, who will then go on welfare, supplement it with drug sales, demand "special rights," and then have news conferences (complete with burning American flags) in which they burn Bibles and unravel the fabric of society.

4. But Rush says...
No, No...

I caught a little of Limpballs this week and he was keeping the knuckle-draggers spirits up by claiming that while Bush and the Congressional Reps were in the tank, the Dems were polling lower than both? He couldn't be lying... could he?

6. We can lead all we want
But Democrats still must step up to the plate as the true opposition and as a viable alternative the stagnant Republican Party.

...if all the Dems do, is sit around and collapse when the going gets tough, no one is going to believe that they have the cojones to govern when a crisis hits.

Oh, yeah, 300 post.

15. Finally nosing above 50% is positive
That's very recent. Even while the GOP was imploding and we took a decisive lead in the generic polls it was still below 50% for Democrats in all of them. Now it looks like some of the undecided have broken our way, at least short term.

I really don't care about these numbers compared to the party affiliation leanings. That's where we lost critical ground due to 9/11 and it crippled us in 2002 and 2004. Once PEW updates the party affiliation findings I think we'll have much more of an idea where we stand in regard to 2006.

19. I wonder how many were polled in the GOP safe districts.
Republicans pretty much have "fixed" the race through redistricting. These polls are meaningless unless safe districts are saying they would not vote Republican and I don't believe that will ever happen. Democrats have not had their eye on the ball for way too long and I fear it is probably too late. There are just too many holes in this boat of ours....
