C-Span caller just made my day!!!
Discussing the Iraq debate and vote last night, and caught one caller from Florida whose first words were: "I'm a born again Christian and I'm a Republican." And I immediately rolled my eyes and prepared myself for the talking-points laundry list. I reached for the remote, and was about to change the channel...

But I'm glad I didn't.

What she said next almost made me drop my coffee. In the same breath, she went on to say that this administration is NOT Republican, but Neocon, and they have built the largest government and largest deficit ever and they have deceived the country and led us into an unnecessary war and only cares about money and cronyism... on and on she went. This born again Christian Republican from the Land-of-Jeb was rolling of MY talking points! A obviously-former supporter who is fed up with his lies and isn't going to take it any more!!!

Her last comment was the best of all: "This 35% who still support him are just fooling themselves and they need to wake up!"

Beautiful! She not only made my day, she made my week!

:kick: :kick: :kick: :kick: :kick: :kick: :kick:

6. In her case, we didn't get thru to her, but her president did!!!
I might be wronr, but judging by her opening statement, I seriously doubt she would ever vote for a Dem. But I can live without her vote in '06 or '08; just knowing that the Chimp's base is so dramatically eroding is enough good news to last me a long time!

14. That's a good point...
Maybe they just won't vote next time! I can't believe I am even saying that... as hard as I have fought to get people to vote. Such bizarre times we are living in.

2. awesome
Lots of people are coming around.

You know, I'm a Christian and I have to say this WH is pretty much antithetical to what Jesus stood for. Any self-respecting, open-minded Christian can see that. My moral values wouldn't allow me to vote for the current Republican party because they are too greedy and exclusive.

8. Voting for Republicans;
I could never vote for a political party that endorces issues so that 100% of the nation's KKK'ers and neo-nazis vote for them.

18. I'm a Christian myself,
but you would never hear "born again Christian" the first words coming out of my mouth. I prefer to let my life and my actions speak of my faith. And because of that, I am disgusted by this administration who love to talk the talk when it will garner them votes and loyal support, but whose actions stand in stark contrast to their rhetoric. Their hypocritical ways are being exposed as more and more of their base realize they have been duped by all their pious promises and flowery God-talk. Many haven't woke up yet, but its starting to happen.

That's one thing I would really like to see is the Republican "Christian" myth just get completely destroyed. It's shameful.

3. I think this is an interesting point
These guys are NOT Republicans. If we can push that concept, the decent Republicans out there (and contrary to our jokes, they do exist) will understand the dissonance they feel about their party just a bit better.

27. I agree with both of you
They are not representative of the true Republican Party. They have Hi jacked the party.

Real Republicans are going to have a long up hill battle trying to recover from the damage these people have inflicted on their party and an even harder time taking their party back from them.

4. Email to my local paper: "I am embarassed enough
to vote democratic". While they're worried about cutting and running in Iraq, their base is leaving by the back door and puking in the parking lot. Yeah - you need a strong stomack, a sick mind and no conscience to stick with this:

5. But you can see the next direction the spin will take....
It's not the philosophy (a theocracy where bigotry is the norm, the poor are screwed, the middle class is all but gone, and the rich run wild and free like rabid hyenas) that sucks, but that darn George who wasn't really a Republican.

The plain fact is that the "steak" is inedible and even toxic....but the Republicans are going to try to convince America that all that's wrong was that the "sizzle" sounded wrong...

Still, this is a sign that the GOP is getting ready to toss Chimpy and his gang off the back of the sleigh to try to slow down the wolves...

12. Although we frequently argue about gun control, this time...
We agree 100%. It IS the Republican platform that is at the heart of the problem, not just the way that * has implemented it. But hey, look on the bright side; Shrubya will be remembered as a war-criminal in addition to the worst pResidnet EVER! And then he can spend an eternity getting jabbed in the ass with a pitchfork, which is, according to HIS beliefs, what happens to bad folks when they die!

and it was a rottenly corrupt mess....

So what can they do but run away?

Even the hardcore crazies like Santorum and Hayworth are trying to keep their distance from the Chimp.

15. Your "steak" analogy is good.
The caller would no doubt prefer a better cut of meat, but it would of course come from the same "Republican" cow. But the GOP is in disarray, and I don't really care why. I just want to enjoy it while it lasts, and hope Dems will take advantage of this golden opportunity and work to make the disarray last as long as possible.

30. That's right. They STILL won't realize that the GOP has never been
fiscally conservative, nor have they been for enyone but the corporations. They will STILL adore Ronnie Reagan, who is basically cut from the same crappy cloth.

31. The plain fact is that Chimpy delivered EXACTLY what they asked for
and now that America's seen it clearly in the cold light of day, we want no part of it....

--they cheered the tax cuts for the rich
--they cheered the war with Saddam
--they wanted to bash gays
--they wanted to meddle in the Schiavo tragedy
--they wanted to substitute superstition for science
--they wanted to let GOP insiders cash in
--they wanted to destroy Social Security
etc......

So all they have left is to pretend that this mess isn't what they meant and begin walking away from the "culprit."

24. As long as the numbers are coming down,
I guess that's worth celebrating. East Tennessee is deep red, always has been, always will be. Don't know what the approval rating is in this end of the state, but I do know that a lot of those who so fervently sang his praises a year ago are strangly quiet about it all now. No doubt the choir is still there, but they're not singing and they're not happy.

to the fact that they have been shamelessly used by the corproatist wing of the repub party for 20 years or so the consequences are gonna be ugly. All the talk of stopping gay marriage and abortions won't have much effect on the angry mobs with pitrchforks at the white house gates.

22. That bunch still scares me, however...
what I hope will happen (my dream scenario) is this: Religious conservatives rebel against the Republicans for not keeping their promises on abortion, prayer in schools, gays, etc., and they unite around their own fanatical banner. They will be many and strong, but with the exception of a few areas of local governments not strong enough to make any serious impact. And standing alone their extremist views will be more clearly visible to those who never realized just how crazy they can be.

Fiscal conservatives and moderates will shake off the dust of a miserable * presidency and take back their party. But they will discover that they had relied too heavily on their religious base and now are greatly weakened in numbers and influence. They will now function as a more moderate, minority party, and will take great pains to distance themselves from the extremists who for too long had defined them.

Democrats will take back the majorities in Congress and the White House of course. They will (hopefully!) be gracious winners and vow to work with a much more moderate and tolerable group of Republicans. In time, all of the damage done over the past five years will be undone, international relationships will be restored, and everyone will promise to never go back to the way things were at the start of the 21st Century.

Probably won't happen, but I can still dream!

17. Neo-Con, The Next Right-Wing Smokescreen
I fear that I'm more cynical. I expect that after 2009, right-wingers will try to deflect richly-deserved criticism of their policies as practiced by Gee Dubya's Duck Soup Posse administration and its supporters in the Banana Republican Congress by saying "Well, the Bush guys weren't really conservatives, they were neo-cons. We, on the other hand (Just watch the little wingie-dingie reach for the polishing rag to start polishing their little tin halos) are REAL conservatives--so We weren't responsible."

Just watch the lying, dishonest, corrupt little imps adopt that sorry argument like they really believed it all along.

28. "Gee Dubya's Duck Soup Posse" LOL!!!
I don't think it will take till '09; it's already starting to happen among Repug's up for reelection next year (even Santorum is trying to change his stripes). And just because they are in disarray now doesn't mean they will just roll over or go away. They'll reinvent themselves and spin themselves dizzy trying to get out of the mess they've stepped in. They will continue to be a sore on the rectum of America, and we will always have to stand up to them and expose their faulty ideas and designs.

But as much as their perpetual spin makes me sick, I'm glad that, at least for a little while, we get to watch them spinning in order to cover their ass, instead of spinning to put down their opponents and avoid serious debate and discussion.

25. btw why can't we all be conservatives?
if the proceeds of the national wealth were shared out fairly (and with blind faith in humanity rather then private distrust based upon self knowledge) then even the poorest would have enough to get by, even the worst criminal wouldn't drive himself insane with hatred if he saw the material needs of everybody met at some basic acceptable level...and if young people saw there was hope for tomorrow. Why must the glutton and pig get more then he can use, and corrupt everything in promoting his own selfish interest?
i tell the bushevik a**holes who say 'in my conservative opinion...' that everybody should have a 'conservative' opinion, and would if phoney 'conservatives' weren't sabatoging every effort to run the world fairly and with a wisdom tested by the ages
