If you're not watching this debate on C-Span now, you are
missing history! Murtha reading notes from military and their families. Repugs showing that their only talking point is "support the troops" as if that's what they're doing. This debate will be recorded as one of great moments that turned the tide on this illegal war.

1. It's great--they didn't give enough time for the debate, though
They should have let this go on for a damn day!

Ugh, JD the Weasel is up now, thankfully only for a minute.

5. This is a sham
The debate should be at least five minutes per House member. If they want to yield their time to let others speak, they can. But this 30 minutes for each side is a bunch of crap. Seven seconds per House member to speak on an issue as important as war? It's a sham.

The history will come if Pelosi leads the Democrats off the House floor. My fear is that this is going to be a unanimous vote against Hunter's resolution or that you'll see a deeply divided Democratic party split on this vote.

6. It is the chrysalis of the anti-war movement.....
Tonight history is being made and we are watching it live.

I was about 20 (1973 or 1974) when Murtha won his first election (a BIG upset in a heavy Republican district). He has finally come into his own tonight.

Al Jezera (a news outlet) had the same headline as the rest of the world?

16. Rowdyboy, I agree! I told my husband history is being made
tonight! I don't know much about Murtha, but what I've heard and learned in the past few days has made me a believer. Mr. Murtha is speaking from his heart and has nothing to lose. Someone had to call this admin on their total FUBARs, and this is it!
I'm pushing 50, so we're close in age, but was not familiar w/Murtha. I loved it when he mentioned Carter and Tip O'Neill!

17. I was so into politics during Watergate....There were 7 or 8 special
elections in 1973 and 1974 (several in strong Republican districts) and Dems won them all. Murtha, I believe, was either the first or the most surprising. Whichever, I remember him clearly (as clearly as I remember ANYTHING from 1974 which isn't saying much!)

I agree, and just contacted friends to watch it.
Those letters he's reading trump the drivel of faux patriotism by the right.

14. Do you think aversion therapy would work for the Repubs
every time they resort to the same tired old talking points, which are lies on top of being repeated over and over?

"embolden the enemy", "cut and run", "irresponsible", "support the troops", "sending the wrong message"

They would get electric shocks for saying that expressing dissent undermines the troops and aids the enemy.
