How long before the GOP tries to claim MD Lt. Governor Steele was
Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 11:31 AM by Zuni
"watergated"?

Apparently a building in Annapolis was broken into. His Senate campaign HQ was there. Some computers were stolen from his office and several others.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/16/AR2005111602294.html

Steele, a black republican, has been campaigning for the US Senate on the theme that he has been racially attacked by evil Democrats. A few black politicians HAVE reffered to him as an "Uncle Tom." In 2002, at an event at the majority black Morgan State University in Baltimore, some black students tossed oreo cookies at him. So far, the Steele campaign and the national GOP have done nothing but whine and complain about the "racism" of the Democrats in attacking Steele. Last night Steele was on Hannity and Colmes, Hannity doing his theatrical best to act disgusted by the oppressive liberal bigotry that is keeping Steele down. Of course, this is the same Hannity that can watch a video of police officers beating up a handcuffed black man and say "we need to know what wasn't shown on the tape.I see no evidence of police brutality or racism etc etc."

At least Colmes brought up the fact that Steele's boss, Governor Ehrlich, held a fundraiser at an all white country club. Steele claims neither he or the governor knew that it was all white. Yeah. :eyes:

basically, Steele is trying to ride this wave of sympathy all the way to the Senate. So the Republican outlets have been beaten this constant drum of racism accusations at the democrats. This is a very blue state, and the last GOP senatorial candidate was beaten by 65%-35% in 2004. So the GOP is working overtime to get Steele into the Senate and are ranting 24/7 about racism

Ben cardin and other democrats are also saying, with much justification, that dredging up "racist" attacks from 2002 (especially when black students were the "culprits") is a distraction

1. Tim Russert brought up something about his tax returns with Howard Dean
last Sunday on MTP. Dean handled it perfectly. Said he didn't condone that type of behavior and any culprits should be prosecuted. Now they have to find the "culprits". Hmmm. Want to bet it was an inside job?

2. I have no doubts that the GOP has been setting up
and will set up more opportunities for Steele to be "victimized"

it is their only hope of getting a chunk of the black vote in what are solidly blue areas like Baltimore City and Prince George's County

3. Geeeeeeeze - MD Democrats need to squash this rethug trick
This Rovian trick need to be squash quickly and soundly by the democratic party. It sounds similar to what KKKarl Rove did in Texas in the '90s with a claim that *'s gubernatorial campaign office was broken into by political opponents.

5. The oreo incident was a lie
None of the people cleaning up the auditorium that the debate was held even found any oreos. One fo the Washington Times reporters who claimed that oreos were thrown and on the floor later could not even recall.
