Feinstein Calls Alito "Independent Thinker"

During a meeting with California Senator Dianne Feinstein this morning, Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito tried to distance himself from comments he made on a job application he filled out in 1985.

On that application he wrote there was no constitutional right to abortion. Today, though, he said "it was different then." Alito told Feinstein that when the application was filled out he was vying for a political job. Since then, however, he has worked as a circuit court judge for 15 years, and he said he is not an advocate for political causes.

Feinstein is the only woman on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which will question Alito during his confirmation hearing starting January 9.

Will vote against Alito if she's not satisfied with his answers to right-to-privacy issues and abortion.

You can take that to the bank. She may be conservative in some areas but she is firm in protecting women's rights.
