Now you know how there are some issues that a lot of us support, but the Democrats would never even touch them so don't even ask? Well, for the Republicans, torture is one of those issues. There were only like five Senators who voted against an anti-torture bill, and yet if you visit conservative message boards, you see that the base comes out overwhelmingly for torture!
John McCain has been an outspoken and aggressive advocate against torture, however. So if he becomes their nominee, our work is cut out for us: simply have a further-right third-party candidate, or even a preponderance of right-wing pundits, call him out for being "weak on terrorism" by being against torture. It will pull the rug right out from under him! Meanwhile, our nominee should not say anything directly against torture, but couch it in language about "letting the investigations run their course" and "drawing a conclusion about specific charges when the time comes", and not make any accusations against the Bush* administration on this point.
