Jimmy Carter in '08
OK, I may be dreaming, but he only served one term so couldn't he run again? Just as the country turned to him post-Watergate, this nation now needs a down-to-earth, honest, EXPERIENCED, principled NOBEL PEACE PRIZE WINNER to lead us out of the quagmire of the Bush era.

LET'S DRAFT HIM!

1. No, not as Prez..
.. but rather as a very powerful diplomat.

Carter makes a great ex-president.

2. I think you have no idea exactly how old and feeble he really is.
He hides it well, but he is clearly not physically up to the job now, and certainly will not be in '08.

6. I think Tom's chance came and passed in 1992. He'll be busy in his
Senate reelection campaign in 2008. 1992 all the heavyweight candidates passed early on and Harkin still did poorly.

22. That would be Harkin, not Harken
the energy company the Bu$h family was involved with is called Harken.

7. No. It would be too much of a deja vu with the timing of the last time he
held office.

oh, please. no.

Carter makes an excellent Ambassador, statesmen. He's good for America, but the brownshirts would do him in.

He's a gentle spirit, so let's not go down that road again.

his life has been very full, eventful and productive as an ex-president and at his age I think that is what he wants.

13. Wrong .. I was around ...
Yes, we had problems, but it was because Carter was a realist and called for sacrifice -- shared sacrifice. Everyone had to sit in those gas lines, and the haves/have-nots discrepancy wasn't anywhere near as bad as it is now. And a second Carter presidency wouldn't necessarily be a return to the first (although if we returned to the policies he advocated then, considering in the current world climate, that might not be a bad thing).

she has now, from the great interest rates in the Carter years.

16. Carter in '08, or is it Carter in '80?
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 06:48 PM by Ignacio Upton
Notice the numbers can be reversed. Anyway, his time passed as President. He is a nice guy, but why do you think he lost in a landslide re-election to Reagan? While his heart was in the right place, the country wasn't doing very well in 1980. It would excite some older Republicans if they could take out one of their old anti-Carter bumper stickers, though. Carter will also be 84 in 2008.

17. Love the Jimma, but
he may be a tad old for 2008 ? I LOVE, love him as an elder Dem right now, especially that our nation is where he was at, and comforting, in '76.

Just a thought, could Bill Clinton be a Vice President? OMIGOD, that would be wonderful :)

20. Can Bill run/ be Mayor of New York ?
This gal can hope :)... but like Jimmy, we NEED Bill and refreshing Democratic honesty filtering in the Bushie Admin :)

My worse fear right now is Va's Senator George Allen running unopposed in 2006. Warner's been catapulted to Pres08, we are screwed.

26. Not necessarily
http://archives.cnn.com/2000/LAW/08/columns/fl.dorf.goreclinton.08.01/

"But these naysayers would be wrong. The Constitution permits Clinton to be elected vice-president, and if necessary to ascend for a third time to the presidency as careful attention to the language of the 12th and 22nd Amendments shows.

The 12th Amendment would allow a Clinton vice-presidency. Its language only bars from the vice-presidency those persons who are "ineligible to the office" of President. Clinton is not ineligible to the office of president, however. He is only disqualified (by the 22nd Amendment) from being elected to that office.

This is no mere semantic distinction. Article II of the Constitution carefully defines exactly who is "eligible to the Office of President": anyone who is a natural born citizen, at least 35 years old, and has been a U.S. resident for at least 14 years.

For example, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is ineligible for the office of president because she is a naturalized, rather than a natural born, citizen. Accordingly, the 12th Amendment renders her ineligible to the office of vice-president as well."

23. I don't think that Jimmy Carter is electable in today's climate
Don't get me wrong, he's a hell of a guy and a hell of a President. But frankly I wonder if he's too progressive to be elected Governor of Gerogia today let alone POTUS.

Too old, and he isn't electable.
I heard a rumor that Clinton may run for Gov. of California, but not Mayor of NYC. Too bad.
