Bush's speech today has Karl Rove's fingerprints all over it. The dead giveaway? Bush's claim that his opponents on the war are engaging in "revisionist history." One of the tactics that Rove uses is to anticipate the names that the opposition is likely to use and then use those names agains them before they have a chance to use them against him. Case in point: the way he started attacking Kerry's war record before the Dems could start attacking Bush's. I wish I could think of more examples (there are lots of them). I find it not only ironic but disgusting that the most myopic president in U.S. history is called "visionary," and the Republicans, who are mired in the 13th Century, are referred to as the party of the future and the party with ideas when their only idea is to give money to the rich and leave the rest of us holding the bag. Now, Bush is accusing Dems of engaging in revisionist history. This is Karl Rove's way of drawing attention away from the real truth. Unfortunately, we Democrats are to blame for letting Rove and the other Republicans get away with this Orwellian trickery for so long. Prominent Democrats need to come out TONIGHT and nip this bullshit in the bud. They need to say "Revisionist History? In order to have revisionist history you have to have history, and in order to have history, you have to have facts. This administration has withheld, obfuscated, and manipulated the facts since it took office. We're not talking here about revisionist history; we're talking about revisionist reality! This administration is out of touch with reality, and history will record it as one that 'revised' this country into war, economic decline, and class warfare." Democrats need to get out front on this and reclaim the English language!
