Chalabi Pushes Iran Card in Last Ditch Self-Promotion Offensive

Washington D.C. – Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed Chalabi has been playing hard ball with Bush administration officials during his eight day trip to Washington D.C. According to senior associates of the Iraqi official, who have accompanied him to meetings with Bush administration officials, Mr. Chalabi has been threatening his friends in the Bush administration that if they do not support his candidacy to become the next prime minister of Iraq that there will be no way to contain Iran. He has told them in no uncertain terms that he is the only one who can make the Iranians behave.

Such threats, whether accurate or not, ring sweetly in the ears of an administration desperately in search of solutions for a troubled region. Under harsh pressure from Israel’s Prime Minister Sharon to do something about Iran, the White House has approved a series of “highly intrusive and provocative’ intelligence operations against the government of Iran”, according to a highly placed official who formerly worked as an analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency. These intelligence monitoring operations consist of everything from aerial surveillance missions that straddle Iranian airspace that are launched from Iraq and Kazakhstan, to even more controversial operations that shall remain nameless for the time being.

Last Monday, the Iranian government announced that it had found the wreckage of two U.S. unmanned spy planes. Iranian officials described the crash of a Shadow 200 RQ-7 drone in Ilam Province and of a Hermes drone in the Khoram Abad area of Iran. The Pentagon issued no comment to the Iranian claims.

Mr. Chalabi, a convicted embezzler in Jordan, is a known friend of Iran. He visited that country before arriving in Washington D.C. earlier this week. In his last ditch quest for power, Chalabi reiterated to U.S. officials that Iran’s unpredictable President Ahmadinejad may decide to play the oil card as a weapon against the United States. Specifically, he told them that President Ahmadinejad might team up with President Chavez of Venezuela, thereby withholding substantial amounts of oil from the international marketplace, as a means of driving up the price of a barrel of oil. At present, the United States relies on 7.4% of its petroleum products from Venezuela. Meanwhile, Iran provides 5% of all oil production globally. “If Iran and Venezuela decided to team up and squeeze the United States, Uncle Sam might have to scream uncle,” explained one of Chalabi’s friends.

9. Ummm, bushco does
They believe anything that might make their quest for ME domination possible. They probably believe Chalibi is their short cut to conquering Iran's oil. This bunch is obsessed with getting the ME under their control and so far they think Chalibi is on their side.

2. Screw him.
I'm thinking he just dug his own grave with that remark. At least as far as I'm concerned.

3. Why is this man walking around free?
He should be arrested, and deported back to Jordan to begin serving his 20 year prison term.

Commentary: Chalabi's road to victory
By ARNAUD DE BORCHGRAVE
UPI Editor at Large

WASHINGTON, March 29 (UPI) -- With only three months to go before L. Paul Bremer trades in his Iraqi pro-consul baton for beachwear and a hard-earned vacation, the country's most controversial politician is already well positioned to become prime minister.

Ahmad Chalabi, the Pentagon's heartthrob and the State Department's and CIA's heartbreak, has taken the lead in a yearlong political marathon. Temporary constitutional arrangements are structured to give the future prime minister more power than the president. The role of the president will be limited because his decisions will have to be ratified by two deputy presidents, or vice presidents. Key ministries, such as Defense and Interior, will be taking orders from the prime minister.

Chalabi holds the ultimate weapons -- several dozen tons of documents and individual files seized by his Iraqi National Congress from Saddam Hussein's secret security apparatus. Coupled with his position as head of the de-Baathification commission, Chalabi, barely a year since he returned to his homeland after 45 years of exile, has emerged as the power behind a vacant throne. He also appears to have impressive amounts of cash at his disposal and a say in which companies get the nod for some of the $18.4 billion earmarked for reconstruction. One company executive who asked that both his and the company's name be withheld said, "The commission was steep even by Middle Eastern standards."

10. And how will he make the Iranians behave? Will he take away....
their toys, give them a time out, take away their driving privilege. That is the most ridiculous statement I have heard in a long time. Chalabi is nothing but a blackmailer.

13. Those tons of documents are well hidden and..
it would make sense that Ahmad has stated to the Bush Criminals that if he is assasinated by the Bush Regime that those documents will start to surface in the Press around the world.

14. No. The Australians & New Zealanders could just stop sending
boatloads of lamb to Iran. And POOF! Iranian leadership is tanked. Would be like "oil" being taken away from the USA. Cause Iranians have oil. What they lack is farmland.

15. Cowardly, hereditary rich assholes strut their stuff; birds of a feather
The only difference between Chalabi and Bush is that Chalabi's smart.

Chalabi is of the same cloth as James Baker.

Then again, it's not too bright to crow about how you can masculinly dominate the Iranians...

This man will be killed someday, it's just a matter of who gets him first.

16. So big hero Bush is being bullied by
an international conman and Sharon!! That makes the US look soooooo strong!!

And if this is true, he is here blackmailing the government of the US:

If Iran and Venezuela decided to team up and squeeze the United States, Uncle Sam might have to scream uncle,” explained one of Chalabi’s friends.

You know, even Freepers ought to be upset when they read something like this ~ and I believe it, because this is the tone he used when asked how he felt about having led the US to war based on lies. His cavalier, 'Oh Well' attitude, showed how much he despises this country, but thanks to the weak, scared leader we have, he has been allowed to use our military to accomplish his own ambitions. The Iraqi people hate him.

And btw, the US talked Jordan into pardoning him recently ~ he must have something really bad on this administration. Maybe all the receipts Saddam kept for the WMDs Reagan/Bush sold him.

He is smart, the first thing he did when he reached Iraq, was to get those documents ~

I don't understand why he has not yet been arrested and questioned about his spying activities.

As for his claims about Iran?? What a joke!! He also made claims about Saddam's WMDs and terror connections. Of course he knew that's what the Bush administration wanted to hear, and Judy was more than willing to use him and his friend 'Curveball' to help push the agenda.

Before Bush, no one in Washington would give him the time of day. He had to wait for the criminals to take over before he was able to get our military to help him achieve his personal ambitions. Birds of a feather. But I think in the end, they will all do each other in. They all know too much about each other.
