No Child Left Behind
Leave No Child Behind has turned into a laughingstock.
Recently in New York in Nassau County on Long Island in a city by the name of Rosyln Pamela C. Gluckin, the former assistant superintendent for finance pleaded guilty to grand larceny.
She made a deal with the prosecutor. The deal limits any future prison term she might receive to three to six years on the condition she cooperates in the case by testifying against all the other defendants.
The other defendants include her son, John McCormick, 40 and her niece Ms. Rigano.
Ms. Gluckin said she stole about 4 million dollars in Roslyn school funds.
Now comes the amazing part of the deal.
She will immediately pay back 2 million dollars to the Roslyn school district.
After she is released from prison she will give back the other 2 million dollars.
In September of 2005 Frank A. Tassone made a deal with the district attorney also. He was the Roslyn school superintendent. He got what is called a ‘provisional’ sentence of 4 to 12 years. (Provisional means it might be suspended or eliminated.)
The deal he made includes promising to testify against his partner and ‘roommate’ Stephen Signorelli, with whom he has been living for 30 years.
Some school textbooks cost nearly 80 dollars a piece. Schoolchildren go without proper heating in the winter even on prosperous Long Island.
If this has been going on for these past 10 years on Long Island what is happening in your school district?
