Creationist school board FIRED
Some particularly heartwarming election results came out of Dover, Pennsylvania, when ALL EIGHT repugnican school board members who were trying to impose creationism on the schoolchildren of the district were FIRED BY THE VOTERS, TOSSED, REMOVED, SENT PACKING, THROWN OUT ON THEIR ARSES.

"The proponents of these changes don't have any idea what the fossil and molecular evidence says, and they are misrepresenting it. There is no credible evidence against common descent and chemical evolution; those concepts are being strengthened, year by year. What does this school board think to gain by teaching students lies?"

1. Good....
If they want, they can buy some land and build a freak show commune to live in. Leave everyone else alone!

3. Good
The biggest reason to not teach creationism only in schools is because these poor kids who are at the whim of adults who claim to know better suffer when trying to get into college. I had a kid in my geology class actually stand up and tell the professor that the earth was 10,000 years old, sad but I do have to give him credit for having the balls to stand up in a lecture hall of 100 and say that.

5. Wasting class time trying to convince kids
that evolution is bogus doesn't improve their chances in higher education.
"Goodbye, Kansas. I don't expect to see many of your sons and daughters at my university in coming years, unless the teachers of your state refuse to support the outrageous crapola their school board has foisted on them. I hope the rest of the country moves on, refusing to join you in your stagnant backwater of 18th century hokum."

8. I was NEVER taught evolution
I went to school in Massabama, and remember the 10th grade biology teacher telling us she was Christian and therefore would not include evolution in her curriculum. I kid you not.

In my adult years I've been very interested in the subject of human evolution and have enjoyed the self-teaching process of reading.

10. I was never taught evolution, either.
As a result of my fundy schooling, I've become extremely interested in evolution. It's fascinating.

9. Me too
I think we should leave science in the schools and those parents worried about ID should teach their children at home or send them to a religious sunday school.

12. Apparently however,

the people picked to replace them are also not opposed to teaching ID in schools. Fortunately, they would like to see ID taught in a world philosopy and religions course. They are against it being in the science classroom, which is the only part of this crap that bothers me.

I don't have a link to support this, but I saw it earlier on DU. I'm sure some savvy DU'er will find it for me :D I'm just lazy like that...

13. It's a start!
The Dover, PA school board's action was the intellectual equivalent of granting rights without responsibility! If ID were about science, it would not after many hundreds of years remain unbridaled by the scientific method and unencumbered by known facts.

The board members were rightfully voted out of office!
