CBS' Changing Headlines
I know a lot of networks do this, but it annoys the hell out of me.
Here's a couple examples of CBS changing headlines the next day that originally sounded more damaging to Bush and the GOP...

On November 2, CBS News ran a page with the title: "Anemic Ratings For Bush"
The next morning it was changed to: "Poll: Approval Ratings Compared"
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/11/02/opinion/polls/main1005327.shtml?CMP=ILC-SearchStories

Last night, CBS ran a page with the title: "Democrats Sweep Governors' Races"
This morning it was changed to: "Dems Dent GOP In Off-Year Vote"
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/11/08/politics/main1022123.shtml

Somebody at CBS is having these titles changed to lessen the impact.
Are they getting complaints from rightwingers about the titles or are there just rightwingers
at CBS trying to close the barn door after the horses have left?

1. Send this to presstitutes.com
This is the kind of stuff they keep track of.

2. I noticed that phenom this week with the elections.
The AP and others had headlines and stories on Monday that the election would be a "test" for the GOP, etc. Now, when GOP has apparently failed that test, not a peep out of them about it.

3. Today I find they are downplaying or giving only token coverage to last
night's election victories for the Ds.

4. Just a guess, not having read the stories
But those look like breaking news/second day lede type headlines. One breaks the news, later after reaction is added, it becomes an analytical piece.

8. Yes, and after "analysis"
the title always winds up more GOP-friendly.

6. Regarding the elections
I like the second headline better. It reflects the wider impact of yesterday's results beyond 2 gubernatorial races. I would prefer something like: Dem Kick Butt, or Hateful Conservatives Going Down, but this is sufficient for now.

7. Except that it's implying the GOP talking point
about the meaninglessness of the "Off-Year Vote"

And a "Dent" sounds more like a harmless fender bender.

I think "Democrats Sweep Governors' Races" sounds more damaging to the GOP.
