5. This is not good animal legislation, but penalizes small, responsible
breeders while the volume puppy mills just sail on through not minding these invasive inspections because they are businesses, not homes.

2. Actually, nothing cuddly about this.
This is a PETA-endorsed, invasive measure that will win support because PA has terrible puppy mills, which they ought to police in their own state.

Instead we're going to get a FEDERAL law where a hobby breeder like me, who breeds two or three litters a year from top show and performance lines and with all health clearances, will have to open my "kennel" (read: my house) to agents contracted by the USDA.

AKC has already submitted an inspection contract, which should be yet another nice, big money-maker for AKC.

There is nothing to keep PETA and HSUS and other animal "rights" organizations from applying also, meaning I would have to open my home to these anti-pet-owning groups for "inspection".

I am horrified by this legislation as it is one of those things that sounds like a good idea, but in fact would intrude into my home in rural Texas because Pennsylvania can't get around to regulating its own puppy mills.

I am very sorry to say that Dick Durbin is the co-sponsor of this bill.

I'm sure he thinks he's being pro-animal and pro-pet, but this is an insidious piece of legislation that has the FEDERAL government poking its nose into my home, and that of thousand of others like me.

I urge those of you who love your pets, and support ethical breeding and ethical breeders to please work against this bill.

Thank you.

3. Didn't Mr. Burns have a puppy farm?
And Rick can ask his friend Bill Frist if it's really that much different, dogs and cats, when it comes to vivisection and all.
