1. If they were smart, they would pick Sn. Voinovich (OH)...
...to help hang onto that state. They won't pick him because of his vocal opposition to Bolton.

2. Rick Santorum
He will appease the radical right and by leaving the Senate, it will give the GOP the chance to run someone who has a better chance of winning.

10. Condi's one of the few the neocons can trust.
So far, being part of the inner circle has been more important than being electable. Condi might not be very electable, but she's more so than anybody else in the inner cabal.

5. Congress critter from state with Repug Gov.
Congress Critter promoted to Veep will cause a vacancy which is filled by the governor of the state. Furthermore, no critters from states with moderate Repug governors will be considered either. It'll be a Congress Critter from a state with a lunatic governor. Or, it will be a non-congress critter.

How about James Baker?

9. If they pick James Baker ..
this will be the same as having reagan admin, bush 1,and bush 2 all of the same players are there anyway. Baker is pulling the strings right along with Eagleburger,Bush 1,cheney and a cast of others.

7. Not McCain.
1. McCain's a moderate. ChimpCo has never done anything moderate.

2. Janet Napolitano (Gov or AZ) is a Dem. She would appoint a Dem to fill McCain vacancy.

3. McCain may kiss ChimpCo's ass, but he really doesn't like him. McCain knows that he's torturing people. He probably hates Chimp for it. I'll bet that vice-versa is also true. This, in spite of how they act in public.

Bishy NEEDS McCain for the Fascist, oops, Conservative dream to continue
He has no other acceptable choice. As we get closer to 2006 elections, the Corrupt Cons will scream for change to protect their jobs, and Bishy will bite it to stop the bleeding.

24. He has lots of choices other than McCain.
Don't ignore the fact that the Repugs could lose the Senate majority by appointing McCain. Napolitano would certainly appoint a Dem to the vacancy. If 2006 ends up being close, a McCain appointment could be the Dem seat that pushes us Dems into the majority. The Repugs are too political to allow a Dem senatorial appointment.

There are plenty of senators, reps and other people who do not present this danger. If Cheney goes down his replacement will not be one whose appointment could turn the senate over to the Dems.

15. That's why he'll have to pick McCain.
Do you think Ford was Nixon's BFF? Bush will need someone with real Conservative props and the appearance of integrity or the right is sunk for a while. I suspect Cheney will hang around for a while and stonewall. After all, this is just the criminalization of politics, right? Faux and Rush said so.

17. Sure it will be McCain.
John McCain let Bush lick him '04. Thereby anointing him with the number of the beast.

See for yourself:

Don't be fooled by McCain, he's there to keep us on the ropes thinking there's a good Republican hanging around. Trust me, there ain't.

20. Agreed, He cares about corruption in boxing and
baseball, but doesn't care about corruption in his party. He was also one of the Keating 5 (or was it the Keatting 6?).

Then she's got a leg up for 2008, so they can continue to stonewall.

12. Either one or two extreme directions.
If Bush wants to maintain the status quo, he will go with Old Man Potter to replace Cheney, the American People will not even notice the difference.

The second scenario has Bush reaching an epiphany to save his soul, he will pick Al Gore as his Vice-President whereupon Bush will immediately resign and finally give justice to the American People.

I remember reading something to that effect a few months ago.

Junior can not take the chance that Jeb would do a better job (and of course, any one would do a better job), but his ego wouldn't allow it to be Jeb.

Dubya will never allow Jeb to run...mark my words...

However, if it was Santorium that would be a way to keep him in the party because he stands a good chance of losing PA senate race.
