If Roe is overturned imagine the warzone statehouses will become
Edited on Sun Nov-06-05 03:06 PM by expatriot
The capitol grounds of every state capital except the deepest shade of either blue or red would almost immediately become chaotic battlefields as state capitols are a close mini-van or Saturn drive away. Chaos. Screaming women, fundies throwing fetuses, cameramen from local stations being jostled around as both sides vie for camera time. State legislators rubbing their faces behind closed doors as their ulcers flare up.

on edit: background info: if SCOTUS overturns Roe which proclaims that women have the right to procure an abortion, it then becomes a state issue as to whether a woman has that right.

1. It's tempting, but I still want Roe upheld. nt

2. i wasn't saying that it'd be a good thing. it'd be bad for a number of
reasons. of course for the obvious reason and also, especially if the ruling came next summer it would be a huge distraction to our necessary taking back of Congress in 11/2006.

4. I know you weren't, but I can't help but ache for the fight a little.
I don't think it would be a distraction: I'd think it would be a focused wedge issue with dems on the fat side of the wedge.

If not for the problems that would accrue to women seeking abortions in a few states, I'd say, let's do it. But I would rather have Roe and the constitutional rights than the issue.

5. Good point. The Right's already been using abortion as distraction
they'd just be kicking it up a huge notch.

3. In KS, they would cancel Christmas to schedule the special session just
to make sure abortion is illegal if Roe is overturned. Makes me sick to think about it.

7. If Roe is overturned,
that really WOULD be the end of the Republican Party.
And they know it.

9. GLBTs have been fighting at the state level for their rights since DOMA
I suppose those women that said they only cared about reproductive rights and had no time or didn't care about LGBT rights, as some of them did in DU, will now get a taste of what LGBTs have been going through.

As MLK said, discrimination against one is discrimination against all.
