CNN's Dana Bash Lies about Chavez Speech
During a segment called "Reporters Notebook" on CNN this morning, Dana Bash reported (paraphrasing) that Chavez used the podium at the rally in Argentina to rail against President Bush and his policies with anti-American sentiment.

This is a flat out lie.

It happens that Chavez's speech was broadcast C-Span in it's entirety on Friday night.

Chavez spoke primarily about socio-economic programs not only for the people of Venezuela but throughout all of South and Central America - spoke about agreements already in place, spoke about plans for expanding co-cooperation and safe guarding economic and political sovereignty - spoke about the importance of unity among S.A. leadership and the progress that is already in place. Spoke optimistically of other ideas he intends to advance in hopes to attain unanimity and co-operation among neighbors under the banner of social justice, political and economic freedom.

All of this received enthusiastic response from the Argentines in attendance of the rally.

While it can be said that there were a few critical remarks of North American imperialism and it's policies, and yes spoke out against capitalism- in no way can it be honestly stated that Chavez spent that 45 min "ratcheting up" anti-American sentiment in that speech.

I don't know if C-span plans to rebroadcast that speech, but it would be beneficial to the American public to do so - and contrast what is clearly a disinformation propaganda campaign by the U.S. MSM to further engage in more saber rattling this administration has already been doing against Chavez and Venezuela. I believe C-Span can make this available on DVD or VHS.

Dana Bash and CNN need to set the record straight on those remarks she made on CNN during "Reporters Notebook" this morning and so I urge that others do as i did and called CNN's comment line to demand a correction because these kinds of "errors" (whether deliberate or not)have major consequences in shaping public opinion.

Unless we demand that this is corrected, Dana Bash and others in the MSM will continue to endlessly repeat the offending LIE which will further assist this administration to make another illegal case of military action against Venezuela.

The number is 404-827-0234 - it's the viewers comment line - there's only about 15 seconds to leave a comment so it is important to be succinct.

2. As it happens, I recorded that, and am, as I write this,
converting it into an MP3 (because it was so long to have it as a video is prohibitive). It'll be up in a while on CanOFun.

I agree with you. I enjoyed listening to Chavez, although he did run on a little long, but he wasn't ranting against Bush the whole time but more talking *for* the people.

Thank You! If anyone has Dana Bash's email address - we should send her the link - tell her to do her homework because she's going to be totally disgraced once she learns of her fox paus.

look forward to the link!

16. If I had to guess, based on other CNN reporters' emails,
I would try: dana.bash@turner.com

See if that works.

3. Sounds like pretend-journalist little Dana's cheating and counting on...
...the RepubliCON blast faxes, rather than doing any of her own reporting herself.

9. I don't have it write now.. but a little research and we should be able to
find it.

dollars to donuts, this will be made available on democracy now! over the next few days, perhaps even on FSTV or Link TV.
Perhaps even C-Span, after all they broadcast it with a translater.

8. I sent e-mail to CNN's Reliable Sources
I shamelessly borrowed what you posted because it was so well written and you had acutally watched Dana Bash. Here is what I sent to CNN (the part in italics is what you posted):

Why doesn't CNN take a critical look at its own reporting?

During a segment called "Reporters Notebook" on CNN this morning, Dana Bash reported (paraphrasing) that Chavez used the podium at the rally in Argentina to rail against President Bush and his policies with anti-American sentiment.

This is a flat out lie.

Considering the shameful role the media played in the lead up to the Iraq war, the last thing we need is for the media to become cheerleaders for a US invasion of Venezuela or another coup!

13. thank you...and Dana Bash just did it again in a headline report
she didn't use the same words, but it's essentially the same message: 'chavez spurs anti-American protest' everywhere that bush goes...

i'm sorry, the fact of the matter is that Bush spurs on anti-American protests internationally as well as here at home.

17. I think Chavez is America scared. All the "third world" economists
like freer trade. Chavez isn't stupid. He is just scarred and angry and he should be. But it ruins trade chance for people.

I don't think Chavez is anti-American. I think he is scared. And that is all Bush's fault.

A President Clinton, Gore or Kerry would have had a trade deal. Because they would have demonstrated that the US could work with people.

and the capitalists he represents only care about profits.

20. Why do all the radical "third world" economists want West markets
open to the countries they represent?

Chavez isn't perfect you know. He does some good. He is really trying to create a middle class in Venezuela (which is oil rich so it is actually a crime that the wealth has not spread in the last 60 years).
