Let’s consider something totally different.
Let’s allow that many Republican voters sincerely think they are acting in their own interests when they pull that level, fill in the oval or electronically cast their vote for a Republican candidate.
Let’s allow that they care as much about the country as we do.
I don’t mean the extremist, fringe folks - they need to be ignored - you know?
I mean the voters that feel they are generally making a good choice for their communities and their families in casting their ballot for a Republican.
Let’s give them that. And call them on it.
In 2006, Democrats have a great opportunity to address the Republican agenda, on their own terms.
Have they lived up to their promise of a clear ethical standard in government?
Have they made government more accountable to you?
Have their fiscal policies brought a higher standard of living to your families?
Have their tax cuts made a difference in your standard of living?
Have they said how you and I are going to repay the federal deficit?
Have they brought you a more efficient government, as promised?
Have they made your health care more available, or affordable, as promised?
Have they cut your prescription drug costs, as promised?
Have they sponsored a workable immigration policy, as promised?
Have they refrained from “nation building”, as promised?
Have they made your world safer?
Have they met the promises that got them your vote?
