Zen politics.

I won't go to deeply into it right now, but this week I learned a valuable lesson about power.

Namely: You don't have to be famous, rich or powerful effect massive change. All you have to do is apply a tiny bit of action at just the right time, and then everything else cascades.

When I was at Camp Casey I got some damn good advise from some very smart people, and I've been applying it locally... I'm absolutely amazed at the results!

The key is not asking for credit for anything. Let your opponents and friends think that your ideas are theirs.

Try it.

2. Ok brainshrub
you and I are going to have to talk. I am involved in some rather large, state wide doings right now and I could use this.

Anytime you have the time, seriously.

I took a Zen diving course once, it was stunning how it changed my entire experience.

Right now I'm off to a DFA meeting. Jim Dean, Howard's brother, is in town and he'll be hanging out at a local pub this afternoon to talk shop.

Here is some advice in the meantime: Google "Ann Wright".

5. Grasshopper, when you can snatch this pebble ...
You're right. If you're willing to let the idea find its sponsors, you can spread them with glee. Become known as an idea person, one who will brainstorm and come up with solutions.

Credit, schmedit. Politicians love themselves, and even if you tell them the idea, 24 hours later they'll think it was theirs.

10. It's the little things that add up. Buckminster Fuller called it the trim-
tab effect. A trim-tab is a little teeny tab at the end of a rudder in a large boat. Large boats are harder to turn, and it takes more effort and energy to move them. Takes lots of effort and enrgy to turn their rudders. BUT... if you install a trim-tab on the rudder, your work is made easier. Because all you do is apply enough effort and energy to turn the trim-tab. The trim-tab then turns the rudder, which turns the ship.

What we're doing in this case is functioning as trim-tabs. Every drop of water brings you that much closer to an ocean.

7. voters aren't apathetic
Edited on Sat Nov-05-05 10:10 AM by welshTerrier2
but they are uninformed and inactive ... and they believe the myth that there's nothing they can do to effect change ... as a result of this, their democracy is slipping away ...

that's the bad news ... the good news is that those in power prefer it that way ... "let them stay home and watch TV" ...

what this tells us is that their power is illusory ... they are just the pathetic little "wizard" behind the curtain ... they are not the great and powerful Wizard of Oz ... they derive power from the masses asleep in the poppy fields ... no one challenges them on their lies ...

stand up and speak the truth and their veneer is shattered ... pull back the curtain to expose them ... if you want to go home again, back to the ideals on which the country was founded, then simple, small, local actions can make a world of difference ...
