Democrats should propose a radical new program to rebuild Gulf Coast

and New Orleans. It should be something similar to the WPA of Roosevelt era. It is obvious we need more help to rebuild than just the few favored Republican companies that have received contracts to clean up and rebuild the area. We should offer a bold proposal.

Those young people that would volunteer to help rebuild the levees and clean up the Gulf Coast could sign on for a two-year stint and receive education points for their service, similar to the GI Bill. This would give the young people of htis country a way to serve their country without having to join the military.

First priority to the contracts offered should go to the local and state contractors, rather than favorites from the state of Texas. I would like to see the Democrats propose a program such as this. From the destruction that we have seen, this would make more sense than what the Republicans are doing at this time. It's time for them to get out of the way...
