Anti-liberal book hits Amazon #4 today. Only 35 reviews posted!
Al Franken Furious; 'Do As I Say' Soars on Amazon

Breaking from NewsMax.com

We have no doubt that Al Franken is furious with news today that Peter Schweizer's blockbuster new book "Do As I Say (Not As I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy" has soared to the top of Amazon's Best seller lists.

As of Thursday morning, "Do As I Say" hit Amazon's #6 rank for all books sold - climbing more than 20,000 rankings in a week and more than 200 from two days ago when NewsMax.com first featured the book as its lead story.

The news will have Franken reaching for some Advil, as he is one of the main targets of "Do As I Say."

In "Do As I Say," Hoover Fellow Peter Schweizer reveals the glaring contradictions between the public stances and real-life behavior of prominent liberals. In addition to Franken, many others come under scrutiny including Michael Moore, Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and Ralph Nader.

After two years of research into liberal hypocrisy, Schweizer described his revelations as "stunning."

That may be understatement.

For example, Air America radio host Al Franken says conservatives are racist because they lack diversity and oppose affirmative action. But fewer than 1 percent of the people he has hired over the past 15 years have been African-American.

It gets worse.

Ted Kennedy has fought for the estate tax and spoken out against tax shelters. But he has repeatedly benefited from an intricate web of trusts and private foundations that have shielded most of his family's fortune from the IRS.

One Kennedy family trust wasn't even set up in the U.S., but in Fiji.
Similarly, Bill and Hillary Clinton have spoken in favor of the estate tax, and in 2000 Bill vetoed a bill seeking to end it. But the Clintons have set up a contract trust that allows them to substantially reduce the amount of inheritance tax their estate will pay when they die.

Hillary, for her part, has written and spoken extensively about the right of children to make major decisions regarding their own lives, such as having an abortion without parental consent.

But she barred 13-year-old daughter Chelsea from getting her ears pierced and forbade her to watch MTV or HBO.

And then there's Hollywood hypocrisy.

Barbra Streisand has talked about the necessity of unions to protect a "living wage." But she prefers to do her filming and postproduction work in Canada, where she can pay less than American union wages.
As for other liberals who like to offshore things, there's billionaire Bush-basher George Soros.

Soros says the wealthy should pay higher, more progressive tax rates. But he holds the bulk of his money in tax-free overseas accounts in Curacao, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands.

Schweizer sums up his book this way: "The reality is that liberals like to preach in moral platitudes. They like to condemn ordinary Americans and Republicans for a whole host of things - racism, lack of concern for the poor, polluting the environment, and greed. But when it comes to applying those same standards to themselves, liberals are found to be shockingly guilty of hypocrisy.

"The media and the American people need to hold them accountable."

And don't forget to get the book on Amazon - Go Here Now.

6. Yeah, that's what they usually do...
They send someone out to snap up a ton of copies and make it look like it's a genuine phenomenon. Yet somehow, you can never seem to find anyone who actually likes the darn thing, it's a manufactured effect...Check the lists or trade publications and you'll probably see an asterisk next to the name. I can't fathom that more people are truly interested in that piece of crap, compared to Al's new one.

We'll soon see what the truth is. Ask around and see if anyone is talking about this crappy Republican thing...then compare it to the number of people carrying around Al's book, or telling jokes out of it. That's always an indicator of what the people really think.

I won't doubt that in reality, Al's sales are legitimate and will kick the no-goodnik all over the charts.

9. The Scientologists do that all the time with that Dianetics book
I know one guy who wrote a crappy book that had 20,000 copies in its original printing.

He started calling-up bookstores all over the place and "special ordering" multiple copies of his book. Often, he would use his ex-girlfriend's name when he ordered them.

He thought that if he ordered five copies of his book and then nobody showed-up to buy them, that they would be put on the shelves.

A friend of mine who worked in a bookstore told me that those books probably just had their front covers torn-off and mailed back to the publisher marked "destroyed."

In fact, the majority of the copies of the book were returned destroyed by the publisher.

14. Hasn't Franken spoken about this?
Several "distributors" buy up lots of books for selling and freebies - it appears to be a common practice with the rethugs -

13. Bad Hillary she had the nerve to be a good supportive mother
doesn't she realize what this would do the Chelsea. Chelsea, with different parents could have been just like the Bush twins - obviously they are the poster children for conservative values. (Inagine unlike all 3 Jeb Bush kids and both twins, Chelsea (or any of the 5 kids from the blended Heinz/Kerry family) have never been arrested.)

10. I never get tired of that video!
Edited on Thu Nov-03-05 05:04 PM by Rob H.
I like the moment toward the end where one of the reviewers steps in and breaks a bottle over the non-reader's head after Franken has kicked the non-reader in the groin.

11. That's the kind of intellectual cretinism one expects from Newsmax
It's a wonder they can type with their knuckles dragging the ground.

That whole rant on Hillary is clear and obvious case in point that these people are incapable of understanding cogent arguments. No wonder they have to goose step to glorious leaders and embrace fascist gods.

It's called - bulk order. Publishers do it all the time to hype a mid-list book with a strong backer behind it. Celebrities do it a lot for the ego boost. Al doesn't have to, but the anti-liberal Nazis (whom Rush has been whipping up with his "kill them all" hate speech) must.

15. I believed it was Karl Marx who said we are captives of our system
Whatever that system is. Thus it would be stupid NOT to use some of the tax cuts offered, or NOT to move an account to Fiji if that is how to save money under our system.

Now how is that system set up? To help corporate America. Individuals can NOT change that system but the Government can by outlawing them. To use a system authorized by Congress does NOT make a person a hypocrite, it makes him as much a victim of that Society as anyone discriminated against in that system.

Thus it is the SYSTEM that must change. Now part of changing the system may be to change Individuals (For example forbidding discrimination based on race by individuals but then it is a general rule not an act of one person).

As to Hilary making her daughter NOT watch MTV at age 13, why not it is her daughter. At the same time permitting a 13 year to get an abortion without asking her parents has to be permitted for you have the situation where the Daughter may NOT be able to talk about her pregnancy with her parents, no matter how good the relationship is. I have seen 13 year old argue with their parents about what to watch, where to go, how long to be out etc, but would NOT discuss sex with their parents. You have to address BOTH problems and being humans inconsistent rules are perfectly OK, if based on based on Human Experience (Which in the above case it is).

This author is taking know social problems that have to be solved on a neighborhood at least level with problems that can be solved at a family level. The later does NOT have to be the same as the former and often better off not being the same.

16. Because, you know, getting your ears pierced is JUST like an abortion
Edited on Thu Nov-03-05 05:16 PM by LittleClarkie
Childish comparisons.

And their headline is misleading. Franken, they are guessing, is furious. Franken is not, indeed, furious. It is their wet dream that he might be furious.

But I'm wagering Al Franken is more of a grownup than they are.

18. Some counter arguments
Edited on Thu Nov-03-05 05:44 PM by Rob H.
Bill Bennett: self-appointed "Morality Czar." Huge gambling problem.

Rush Limbaugh: Thinks liberals aren't hard enough on criminals. Drug addict. Tried to game the system to keep from having his medical records turned over to investigators.

Sean "I'm a man of the people" Hannity: Backed out of a college speaking engagement when the college couldn't secure a private plane made by his preferred manufacturer and wouldn't stoop to fly First Class on a commercial airline.

Karl Rove: had last ethical bone in his body surgically removed years ago.

George Bush: Miserable failure. Wanted tougher penalties for drug offenders in Texas despite being an admitted alcoholic and alleged cocaine abuser. Has numerous Iran-Contra figures in his administration. Wants to make sure foreign elections are free, fair, and verifiable but does nothing to ensure the same here in the U.S. (mainly because he knows he'd be toast). Claims to be for free speech, but appears in front of hand-picked crowds while protesters are relegated to "First Amendment Zones."

Ann Coulter: targets liberals for hating America but wished Timothy McVeigh had blown up New York Times building instead. Wanted John Walker Lindh executed to intimidate liberals. Thinks airlines are stupid for not embracing racial profiling. Said, "We should invade (Muslim) countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity." Admirer of and apologist for the late Senator Joseph McCarthy. Is a woman, but thinks women aren't smart enough to be allowed to have the right to vote.

Dick Cheney: shadow President. Says liberals don't support the troops while conveniently downplaying his five deferments during the Vietnam War. Decries the coarsening of American politics before telling Sen. Patrick Leahy, "Go fuck yourself."

Tom DeLay: money launderer, racketeer. Opposes abortion, except on the island of Saipan, where forced abortions among Asian workers paid slave wages are the norm. (See The Truth with jokes by Al Franken. I need to check that little fact again for more specifics.)

These are just the ones I could think of off the top of my head--it's like shooting fish in a barrel!
