Janis Karpinski, an honorable Big. Gen. points her finger

Abu Ghraib general says fault goes high
Demoted officer blames Cheney, Rumsfeld

Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski, the highest-ranking Army officer to be punished for the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, said Tuesday night that blame for the incident should go as high as Vice President Dick Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Karpinski, an Army Reserve officer who had been in charge of 17 prison facilities including the Abu Ghraib prison compound in Iraq, has said repeatedly she's been made a scapegoat for the failures of others. She was in Seattle to speak at Town Hall about her recently published memoir, "One Woman's Army."

"People have escaped blame, all the way up to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and the vice president," she said.

Army Capt. James Yee, who was arrested on suspicion of espionage and held in solitary confinement for 76 days before being released and ultimately exonerated, said during the question-and-answer period that he applauded Karpinski for telling her side of the story.

2. I'm a bit surprised that she's the only one who is talking.
I can't believe that all the military leaders like all the blame dumped on them when they were following orders. I know there's loyalty in the military, but there are many honorable higher ranking officers who are very unhappy with this mess!

3. Capt. Yee also told the truth in his book
about the anti-Muslim bias and how the command of Gitmo were prone to be violent towards the prisoners, and retaliated against those who objected or tried to treat the prisoners like prisoners.

4. Honorable?
Sure, she's speaking out now, but only after she was made the scapegoat. If she was truly honorable, we probably wouldn't be wondering where the rest of the Abu Ghraib pictures are right now.

9. Pentagon
The Pentagon has the remaing pictures. It is not a question of who has the pictures it is a question as to when the Pentagon will release the pictures. The Pentagon has been order numerous times by a federal judge to release the pictures, but has refused to follow the order. I think part of the reason she is speaking out is becuase she was scapegoated, but it appears that she did not hide or do anything else to any of the pictures.

12. I'm saying
if she was truly honorable, the torture wouldn't have happened at the prisons under her command.

5. I don't think you make it all the way to "Brig. Gen." by being a
whiny crybaby "I-didn't-do-nuthin'" whanker. It would take a LOT to cause an Army officer to "blow the whistle". Please correct me if I'm wrong. So, I'm tending to believe Gen. Karpinksi, and hope that, as the bad-news messenger, she survives this filthy, disgusting catastrophe enveloping her life and ours.

8. Illegal detentions, torture and Geneva Convention violations?
THAT wouldn't be enough for a career officer to blow the whistle?
Then what would?
