So, tell me now, how does that wonderful GANG OF 14 come into play
on the Alito nomination? Do we REALLY think the repuke 7 from the gang will vote against him? Will they stop a nuclear option?

Explain to me, please, exactly WHY did the Democrats confirm those rabid RW Judges they had been filibustering? What did the Democrats get out of that Gang of 14 deal?

2. Now is the time to crack that nut
Dems must be held accountable. The Dems in the gang of 14 must be put on notice, join a filibuster or face opposition in your primaries. It's that simple. We can afford to give no quarter on this one. Let the GOP declare nuclear war and let them set the precedent. If Alito is filibustered, then effectively the nuclear war has already occurred.

In other words, it's time to break the gang of 14 in two.

11. Yes...
Dems absolutely MUST be held accountable. I hope they realize that their appeasement of this administration has gotten us nothing but being seen as wimps and losers. We have to start fighting, and fighting with everything that's in us.

Alito is a terrible choice, and I resent having the rabid right-wing nut-jobs call the shots in the country we all live in. Don't believe in abortion? Don't have one. Don't approve of gay marriage? Don't marry somebody of the same sex. Just don't try to get somebody confirmed as a justice on the SCOTUS because you want to be able to dictate to me.

Alito is also pro-corporation and anti-worker, which in this day and age is the very last kind of person we need serving on the high court. The Dems damned well better fight this, we are, after all, the "opposition party", so lets oppose.

3. If Reid plays it skillfully
he will make it look like they're going back on their word.

* has expended his political capital. Sc-Alito is not going to be a pushover.

4. Repukes don't care if they look like they're going back on their word.
I think that's what the plan was all along and the Dems fell for it...HOOK, LINE AND SINKER.

17. You have a point
and if *'s ratings weren't in such bad shape it could be a problem.

Just was listening to local newsradio and they were hammering Sc-Alito for not being pro-choice (uncharacteristically for this station). So it's not going to be an easy sell to at least the 70% of women in the country who claim to be pro-choice.

Others?

We may get some moderates, though. Who's likely?

*Up for election
*Moderate
*Woman
*Pro-Choice
*Pissed at Chimp
*Not insane

Any of those could figure into the equation.

I can think of...
McCain? Moderate and Pissed at Chimp and Pro-Choice
Spector? Same as McCain
Collins? A woman, pro choice, and Moderate
Snowe? A woman, pro choice, and Moderate
Hagel? Probably not.
Voinovich? Pissed at *, pro-choice

12. Nothing because the Pugs are liars. Lindsay Graham has
already warned that he will not back a filibuster of this numonation. We were all aware that this was a distinct possibility since we have learned the hard way that the Pugs have no ethics, but for some reason those 7 Dems trusted their fellow senators...now we will have much worse than Miers. I was so afraid of that. This man is scary even to those on the court with him. If those monsters do not keep their word then the Dems had better stop all Bush so-called "initiatives" cold. It is long past time to take the gloves off.
