"Jesus was black, Ronald Reagan was the devil......
and the government is lying about 9/11. "

http://www.adultswim.com/

That was the opening statement for the new Boondocks series premiering on Ault Swim Sunday (Nov. 6).

I about fell out of my chair when they said it!

1. Boondocks? on Adult Swim? Awesome
I had seen some indications that the people who ran it were left wing...

Mainly from their "bump"s.

4. Holy Comic Strip, Batman!
The strip used to get complaint letters at the San Francisco Chronicle all the time. I'm glad that it hasn't been watered down for television! Wish I'd seen it!

2. hardly seems like an endorsement of the view
of 9/11 being lied about, when they add it to a claim of Jesus being black.

Jesus was probably of Semitic origin, dark hair, dark skin, but not black. From what I know, anyway.

Not that he couldn't have been, I guess, it just seems unlikely.

And, as much as I disliked Reagan...I'm pretty sure he wasn't the devil.

5. It is a joke
One of the main characters of the cartoon is a pre-adolescent black militant, the creator is as critical of him as any other aspect of society.

6. KRS-ONE:
The day begins, with a grin
And a prayer to excuse my sins
I can walk anywhere I choose
Cause everybody listens to the B.D.P. crew
We're not here for glamour or fashion
But here's the question I'm askin
Why is it young black kids taught {flashin?}
They're only taught how to read, write, and act
It's like teachin a dog to be a cat
You don't teach white kids to be black
Why is that? Is it because we're the minority?
Well black kids follow me
Genesis chapter eleven verse ten
Explains the geneology of Chem
Chem was a black man, in Africa
If you repeat this fact they can't laugh at ya
Genesis fourteen verse thirteen
Abraham steps on the scene
Being a descendent of Chem which is a fact
Means, Abraham too was black
Abraham born in the city of a black man
Called Nimrod grandson of Kam
Kam had four sons, one was named Canaan
Here, let me do some explaining
Abraham was the father of Isaac
Isaac was the father of Jacob
Jacob had twelve sons, for real
And these, were the children of Isreal
According to Genesis chapter ten
Egyptains descended from {Hahm,Kam}
Six hundred years later, my brother, read up
Moses was born in Egypt
In this era black Egyptians weren't right
They enslaved black Isrealites
Moses had to be of the black race
Because he spent fourty years in Pharoah's place
He passed as the Pharoah's grandson
So he had to look just like him
Yes my brothers and sisters take this here song
Yo, correct the wrong
The information we get today is just wack
But ask yourself, why is that?

Verse Two

The age of the ignorant rapper is done
Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone
The stereotype must be lost
That love and peace and knowledge is soft
Do away with that and understand one fact
For love, peace must attack
And attack real strong, stronger than war
To conquer it and its law
Mental pictures, stereotypes and fake history
Reinforces mystery
And when mystery is reinforced
That only means that knowledge has been lost
When you know who you really are
Peace and knowledge shines like a star
I'm only showin you a simple fact
It Takes A Nation of MILLIONS to Hold Us people Back
Which is wack, but we can correct that
Teach and learn what it is to be black
Cause they're teachin birds to be a cat
But ask yourself homeboy, why is that?

7. The book of Revelations -
when describing the return of Jesus - describes him as having hair like "wool" & feet the colour of "brass". Several religious & afrocentric groups - The Nation of Islam probably the best known - cite this as proof that Jesus was black. (There are no physical descriptions of Jesus in the Gospels).

(Also, some Rastafarians use that same passage to claim that it describes Haile Selassie.)

8. which proves nothing
first, isn't brass a sort of gold color? Hardly evidence of being black.

second, wouldn't Jesus have BEEN described in the gospels IF he'd been black? He would have looked different than the majority of people in the area...I'd think that would have called for a description.

third, "wool"-like hair is pretty vague, and doesn't prove that it's African.

12. Why is it that
some people seem to get upset when it is suggested that Jesus might be black? I've noticed that people really become annoyed at that suggestion. They seem quite agreeable to HIM being seen as white, with blue eyes and long flowing hair even though he was born in the Middle East.

13. if you read my original post
you'll see I was arguing specifically that Jesus would have looked Middle Eastern, not blond and fair-skinned.

I really don't care whether Jesus WAS black or not, (if he existed at all), but it seems most likely that he was Middle Eastern in appearance. Any suggestion to the contrary is based on unfounded speculation, IMO.

14. It seems to me that, in terms of their more profoundly spiritual
nature (like the pure spirits we call angels, both good and bad), in which regard, as the catechism points out, we most closely resemble God, the sub-Saharan African would indeed be closer to God than other races. The egregious spirituality of the Jews, I believe, would be the product of nurture as well as nature - which however is in no wise to minimise their status in God's eyes and in his scheme of things.

In terms of gender, it's a commonly observable fact that women tend to be more tuned into the spiritual/psychic dimension than men, however they respond to it. The same can be said of animals, I suppose, although of course, it's not relevant to these issues, since they do not have a human soul, with all the ethical demands it is subject to for its fulfilment.
