New Dean campaign manager is a former lobbyist
Mr. Neel, a longtime friend of Mr. Gore from Tennessee, served as his vice-presidential chief of staff for the first six months of 1993, then became President Bill Clinton's deputy chief of staff for another six. He quit when, as he recounted later, he felt that he was neglecting his family, and became president of the United States Telephone Association, where he lobbied for independent telephone companies including the Baby Bells.

7. How is this Dean bashing ? I'm sure he is not ashamed that
his main man is an insider lobbyist. Unless he has been heard recently bashing insider lobbyists. Ohhhhh! I see your point now.

14. Dean bashing? hardly this is an intro to the new campaign head
who some of us including myself wanna know more about. I for one think its not good that Trippi left, Trippi helped make Dean's campaign big.

6. Democracy Now had a guy on talking about this.
He said this "candidate" was simultaneously (1) stirring up anxiety about airport security in the course of a gig on TV, (2) lobbying the federal government for contracts of a company which provided security services for airports, and (3) raising money for a presidential run, and "the public only knew about two of those activities, and that's a problem."

11. Yes but he wasn't hypocritical
by claiming to be an outsider and condeming them, then hiring them as he's done before.

And then there were none!

3. That isn't an inheriantly bad thing, being a lobbyist, but this should
innoculate the Clark-Bashing for him having had that profession briefly.

8. In the interest of full disclosure, I believe
Edited on Wed Jan-28-04 11:01 PM by AP
that Edwards's guy was a registered lobbyist for Northwest, and his firm had lobbied for McDonalds. Those are the only two I know about. Balidick de-registered in 2002.

If he plans on going back into that business, he's working for the wrong guy. Edwards has a plan to make it much harder for lobbyists to ply their trade if they're trying to buy influence.

9. Just goes to show you that this " insider " " outsider " stuff
is all B.S. The ones claiming to be outsiders are clawing like hell to be insiders. Like I said in another thread, Kerry will cut through all this nonsense real fast.

13. Kerry Is The Biggest Hypocrite Followed By Edwards
he and Edwards both.

Attacking Clark for his having been a Lobbyist when there is nothing wrong with that.

Meanwhile Kerry takes money from them and Edwards we can't know because he refuses to let the American people know who is bundling his larger donations.

"But Mr. Edwards -- alone among the serious candidates for president -- declines to provide a list of his major campaign financiers: the men and women who have not only the capability to write $2,000 checks themselves but the networks that allow them to harvest bigger bundles for their favored candidates"

Funny how whenever Edwards says he doesn't take money from Lobbyists he has to qualify that with the word "Washington".

With any luck Clark will go on the offensive and expose these hucksters.
