Gift from VA Gov candidate Tim Kaine on my door when I got home today
It seems the VA democratic candidates want to make sure they get the vote out November 8. I got home and there was a door hanger on my door knob. Bright yellow with the word "VOTE" in red letters with my voting location on it, with a number to call if I need a ride.

I turn it over and it reads "Vote the Democratic Ticket" with the date and poll times.

This is the sort of "junkmail" I'd like to receive more often, it's such a great idea, particularly with people running around passing out false voting info such as polling places and dates/times.

Anyone else receive anything like this in their areas? Am I too easily impressed?

1. Door hangers are popular here in Colorado
Both parties use them to distribute information on their candidates. Most times it is a bulk package with info on all candidates on the slate, but some individual candidates do it as well.

2. It's weird
Maybe they didn't canvas my neighborhood as I first thought. A friend of mine who lives up the street from me didn't get one.

Anyway, I like it.

4. They may have canvassed only registered Dems
Some of that was done at our HQ during the GE. Why leave a doorhanger (which costs money) with poll info and an offer for a free ride to the polls at a Repubs house? ;)

We also did not give anyone a ride to the polls who was not a registered Dem.

6. It's interesting how campaign strategies vary geographically.
I grew up in DC, and had little exposure to yard signs until I moved here. On the other hand, DC pols advertise quite a bit on utility poles and such, but I haven't seen that nearly as much here. I think it's against the law in most places here.

5. I think so
I was thinking next weekend would have been better but hey, the fact that they are doing is great. I wonder why it seems so random though.

I had coffee this morning with a woman running for treasurer of Norfolk, she asked if I was working or playing and I said a bit of both and told her I was on DU. We had a nice little conversation and she asked if I ever thought of getting involved with politics, I guess running...
