Urgent: DU investigators needed: the true # of dead Americans
caused by their participation in the Iraqi war. It must be revealed. This number will turn the people against the War so fast. I read somewhere that it could be as high as 30,000. The soldiers that die in hospitals in other countries like Germany and others or who come home and die from their wounds are not being counted. WE MUST GET THE NUMBERS AND MAKE THEM WELL KNOWN.

The people should have a, right-to-know, law that will enable them to know the names of all soldiers who have died. This is a DISGRACE and should not be tolerated.

Dig DUers DIG!

1. Hasn't this been debunked on here many times before?
Honestly, there are listings of every soldier who died out there, counting up to the current 2,000 plus number. Don't people think that if there were say 28,000 additional soldiers missing that SOMEONE from some of their families would be noticing this and saying something about it? We only have 100 and some thousand over there. As much a debacle as this war is I don't think we've lost a third of our military presence over there.

Also, you give the american people waaaaay too much credit. Unless it's someone they know who died, the number could be tens of thousands and they still wouldn't give a shit, self centered, pathetic lot that they are.

2. Could we start a city by city hunt for soldiers' names? start a page that
we could begin to list names from our papers and other records. Post them and add them up. All we'd have to do is before we post a name we have found, we could check that the name is not already listed.

3. I can't believe that this myth is back again.
This piece of disinformation was investigated and debunked here months ago. You've been around DU long enough so you should know that. If it were true, it would be all over the place. Please, don't waste any more of your and our time on this.

The truth is damning enough.

Sorry, and nothing personal.

Their numbers are very well researched. This is a bullshit rumor. Do not be taken in.

17. YES.
YES, non-combat deaths ARE COUNTED.

YES, if troops commit suicide in Iraq, THEY ARE COUNTED.

YES, if troops are murdered in Iraq, THEY ARE COUNTED.

YES, if wounded troops die in hospitals or on the runway or in the plane THEY ARE COUNTED.

Go to icasualties and do a search by hospitals or by countries; if they are sick or wounded in Iraq and die WHEREVER, then they are COUNTED.

4. the soldiers numbers are OK IMO, but how many mercs have been
lost, and other plain old "workers" imported by Halliburton from 3rd world countries? they keep them in virtual slavery conditions and the imported workers are in grave danger too. Wonder how many innocent Filipinos, Indonesians etc have died while just trying to make a living wage?

8. The father of my daughter's friend
died in Iraq last week from an accident while cleaning weapons. Will that be counted in the 2009 or so, or what? Does anyone know? By the way, the funeral is tomorrow. His death was buried half way through the metro section of our local paper.

18. YES.
If he was wounded in Iraq, and later died from his wounds, regardless where he actually died, by accident or suicide or murder or hostile fire, then he will be counted.

Military Has Lost 2,000 In Iraq

"The threshold was crossed with the Pentagon's announcement that Staff Sgt. George Alexander Jr., 34, of Killeen, Tex., had died at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas on Saturday of injuries suffered in Iraq earlier this month, when a bomb planted by insurgents exploded near his Bradley Fighting Vehicle."
