Next Week's 'Doonesbury' Pulled Because of Miers Withdrawal

By Dave Astor
Published: October 27, 2005

NEW YORK Harriet Miers' withdrawal Thursday caused the pulling of next week's "Doonesbury" sequence focusing on the Supreme Court nominee.

"Doonesbury" strips from the week of Feb. 14, 2005, will be substituted, according to Kathie Kerr, director of communications at Universal Press Syndicate.

Garry Trudeau's now-obsolete sequence -- which humorously showed Miers practicing for her Senate confirmation hearings -- was posted Thursday on Doonesbury.com.

Trudeau was not the only Universal creator to change plans because of the Miers withdrawal. Kerr said Ann Coulter and "Covering the Courts" writer James Kilpatrick both had to revise their columns.

1. Should Have Run It Anyways.....
Or they should have had a tribute of some sort to the 2,000th soldier. I wonder why he's letting that occasion pass without comment, unless he already had one.

3. the strips are done 2-3 weeks before they run....
and with that much lead time, it'd be pretty difficult to make an accurate estimate as to precisely when a certain death toll would be reached.

4. Surely He Could Have Anticipated This Weeks Ago....
and had a strip ready to go the weekend after the 2,000th death. Anyways, obviously didn't.
