Which candidate has the best chance of becoming the alternative to Kerry?
Right now it appears to be Clark since he will likely win several states on 2/3.

1. I agree, it should be Clark. Feb 3 will tell the story.

2. Clark or Edwards.
Edwards especially, is a very different candidate than Kerry, in that he can excite voters. We gotta have either Clark or Edwards, or Novemeber 2nd will be another nightmare. I have seen this before, in 1984 (the election, not the book).

9. Can we not frame the debate by fear?
The people's horrible inclination to choose badly is also balanced by, a GOP potentate.

Edwards and Clark must make their case fairly or there is no case to be made. Let it play out and concentrate on getting rid of the less intelligent and unfair obstructions. So it was disastrous in 1984 and other times. Who were the alternatives back then who did not prove well they could self destruct and lose just as well?

We have better choices. That makes it not just tougher but a far more positive season.

Pray? What will you do, not just your champion.

12. I don't understand your question.
What better choices are you referring to?? Either bush or the Dem nominee will win in November. No one else. bush wins, he sets the SCOTUS for the next 30 years. He will start more wars. We can NOT let him win.

What will I do about what???

10. I like Clark & Edwards
I'd love to see them both on the ticket.

I think they could challenge in Southern states.

They are both fresh faces.

The military hero & everyone's nice, likeable guy with a populist message.

5. Clark hands down
Edwards, even with a win in SC, goes nowhere from there. He needed to knock Clark out in NH and he didnt. He wont have the fundraising to compete, and wont have the institutional support that Kerry enjoys so long as Kerry is viable.

6. Why, Clark, of course.
:7

Defuses the national security issue, avoids the "Massachusetts liberal" label (which Rove will make an albatross), they can't hack into his emails like sitting senators and congressmen, and they can't force him to vote on any controversial legislation. Drives them nuts.

7. The winner of SC.
Which means Clark or Edwards.

If Kerry wins SC, Kerry clinches on Feb 3rd.

14. SC is overrated
I've just been campaigning there for serveral weeks, and its really horribly overrated. Arizona, New Mexico and Missouri are all at least as important, and Oklahoma has only three fewer delegates. Even if Clark loses South Carolina, as is possible, he's posed to win New Mexico, Arizona and Oklahoma by large margins, and Missouri is within grasp. Kerry has little or no organization in any of those states - and the one unknown is how well he'll be able to sustain his momentum absent any campaign depth.

8. If Kerry Falters or is Wounded,
Dean is in second and would likely re-emerge as the front-runner. At least until next Tuesday.

15. Too hard to predict...
Dean's still got the cash and the support to stick around if he wants for Michigan and Washington...even if he doesn't win a single state on Feb. 3.

Edwards needs to win SC since he's said so and he was born there (his backyard).

Clark just needs to win some states (I'd say 2) and be very competitive in the other ones. He's got plenty of dough for TV, so he's got to work to win Missouri, OK, NM, AZ, and SC. A few of them are bound to go his way!

But as far as who is going to win? No way in hell anybody can tell right now!
