Conyers:Sign the Letter to the President to Demand No Pardons ...
Tell the President: No Pardons for Treasongate!
by Congressman John Conyers,Jr.

In July, I wrote to the White House to ask the President to pledge that he will not pardon any Administration official indicted during the course of the Fitzgerald investigation. As some of you may recall, his father, President George H.W. Bush, pardoned officials under indictment in the Iran-Contra scandal. Many of my Republican colleagues, and some of my Democratic colleagues, raised questions about the pardons issued by President Clinton during his last days in office. It would seem to me that this Administration, which promised a higher standard of ethics could, at least, make this pledge.

The White House had promised its full cooperation with the investigation, but has clearly done as much as possible to cover-up their role. In fact, thus far, their strategy has been attack, attack, attack -- most significantly on Mr. and Mrs. Wilson, and as I note below, we will soon see attacks by the President's surrogates on every part of this investigation: the prosecutor, the Central Intelligence Agency and the press. I am afraid, if push comes to shove, a pardon will be a last ditch tactic to evade accountability.

The President has not answered my letter from July (as he has ignored a letter signed by more than 120 of my colleagues about the Downing Street Minutes), but the press has the power to ask this question of the administration directly, and I hope they will.

As the day nears for Fitzgerald to issue indictments, the time is now to put pressure on the President and make him answer the question, will you pardon those indicted in Treasongate?

Critical mass is being reached elsewhere, such as Plamegate, delay, abramoff and more. No reason on earth not to do what you can, even if you think it's futile. It only really becomes futile if you give into it and do nothing. There's ALWAYS hope. Souls can ALWAYS be saved.

Done. Kicked. Recommended.

5. What's your take on being Conyer's "constituent?" I don't want to
misrepresent anything, that would be SO REPUBLICAN...

I've signed other stuff for Conyer's but those never asked me to represent myself as one of his constituents.

Edited on Mon Oct-24-05 08:44 PM by IndyOp
I signed with my own state - and it isn't Michigan.

On Edit: The form asks for "Constituent Information" - I think "Constituent" means 'US Citizen' -- ;-)

You know damn well it aint gonna make any difference if Bush sees 20 million signatures. He's on a mission from god. Amurikans don't know whats best - but the lawd will tell Bush and he'll do what god tells him.

37. No - but petitions appear to be a waste of time with this pretzledent
Perhaps if all of the petition signers also wrote LTTEs and contacted their Senators and Representatives to pressure the WH.

Signing a petition for the Honorable Mr. Conyers is like screaming into a pillow, it may feel good, but solves little.

38. Sorry, but I agree: it ain't gunna make a bit of difference with *
He wouldn't care if 50 million people marched on Washington against pardons, God is telling him that he's got to keep his little Iraq shell-game secrets safe, just like his Presidential Papers.

I can fight Diebold with local initiative for paper ballots, I can even fight some Congressional stuff by appealing to my moderate Republican Senator, but forget fighting for "no pardons" -- that starts and stops with the Idiot in Chief, and he ain't listenin'.

And he ain't gunna.

NYT Bombshell -- Cheney was Libby's Source

Just in from the newly agressive New York Times -- None other than Vice President Dick Cheney was Libby's source regarding Valerie Flame, and Cheney is said to have learned about this from the head of the CIA, George Tenet. It now looks like not only does all of the nonsense about Rove and Libby learing about Plame from reporters crumble, but all roads now lead to the White House, certainly to the VP's office, and who knows where else in the West Wing.

Clearly, it is more important than ever -- as posted today -- that we let the President know we will not tolerate any pardons in treasongate, and let the Republicans know that we will not countenance any more selective memory regarding the significance of impeachment and obstruction of justice -- a la Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Stay tuned.

31. Done! This is fantastic
It would be such a disappointment on Fitzmas if * just pardoned everyone. BTW, that is how all the Iran-Contra criminals got away with it - Bush I just pardoned them.

***

I think Ronald Ray-gun should have been impeached for Iran-Contra.

Either he was a co-conspirator - and should have been impeached...

OR he was complicit, and did not act to punish the perpetrators - and should have been impeached...

OR he was senile, and genuinely unaware of what was going on - in which case he should have been forced out of office on grounds of being unfit to lead the United States.

No matter what you believe, Ronald Reagan should NOT have been permitted to finish his second term.

Then again, he may not be able to write anything more than his name!
