Dean calls for sending $25 to DNC or "to a candidate that they like..."

We need to be the party of reform -- campaign finance and election reform. I used to say during the presidential elections that if you want to have real campaign finance reform, don't wait around for a politician to do it, just go out and do it yourself. Send us $25 over the Internet. We need to train more people to do that. If middle-class and working Americans worry about their loss of control and Republican control of the House and the Senate realize that they can fix that by sending over $25 once in a while, giving to a candidate that they like, then we can take back America. We'll buy back America from the corporate interests, $25 at a time, because there are a lot more of us than there are of them.

DNC contributions cannot be designated to a particular candidate, so Dean is saying either give to the DNC or to individual candidates--is he not?

Edited to note that "this excerpt came from Howard Dean's June 2 speech at the Take Back America 2005 conference in Washington, D.C." and posted on alternet.org.

1. I'm willing to support the candidate of my choice
But the rest of the gameshow forget it. All that money in 2004 for the kind of goat rodeo conventions that both parties put up was nothing short of ridiculous. We have people who can't even feed their kids or get them glasses for crying out loud. If Americans don't need decent health insurance, they don't need to pay for a TV fantasy either.

2. Agree completely. Dems have got to push FCC to give candidates free air

time--instead of giving the greedy bastards the airways for zip, nada, nothing!

They owe this to the American people as responsible corporate citizens, but, if we do not demand, it ain't gonna happen--particularly with the Rethugs controlling Congress and the White House.

4. Its pretty much an unwritten rule that he cannot endorse anyone
in any Democratic primary. They're all Democrats afterall.

5. I just donated 10 bucks to Cardin for Senate and Kaine for Governor.
I plan on sending some money to Hackett next payday.

7. If we all participated in political process, we could take America back!
As Howard Dean once roared, "You have the power!" We do have the power, but only if we care to use it.

6. I agree with pressuring the FEC, but under Pub control, that's
very unlikely!

I like Dean's idea! I was thinking about something like that this morning, before I heard about him asking for this program.

What if EVERY Dem donated $5-$10 to the DNC or their choice of candidates? How much $$ would that really be? REcognizing that there would still be some Dems who contribute much more than that too!

Like them or not, TV ads sell the Candidate! Until we can get the Fairness Doctrine back, or regain control of the WH and replace the heads of all the different orgs like the FEC, FCC, Commerce, etc, we have to play the hand we've got.

I don't have much money, but I'd be more than willing to send $25 to the DNC, or split it between them and the candidates I chose.

I think we need to give this idea some very serious thought.
