Are negotiations on this happening this week between the Senate and the House? When will the House vote on this issue?

1. I read someplace that the House Repugs
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 05:32 PM by longship
are going to try ripping the McCain torture thing out of the bill. That would mean that Chimp wouldn't be vetoing the bill.

I was hoping that we could nail Chimpy on torture, but 2006 is coming sooner than 2008. If the House Repugs can be rigged for the part, all the more better. It would be nice if they all voted as a block so we could stick the "Torturer" label to them all at once.

2. I read this paragraph and it made me wonder -
On Oct. 5, the Senate passed by a 90-9 vote an amendment, sponsored by Sen. John McCain and other senior Republicans, that would make the Army Field Manual on Intelligence Interrogations binding policy for all those in military custody. The measure would also reinforce the ban on cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of detainees, which the Administration now asserts does not apply to U.S. intelligence agencies or to U.S. actions abroad. The House version of the massive military spending bill does not contain the McCain provision. House and Senate negotiators meet this week to reconcile differences between the two versions of the bill.

3. Bye bye amendment
Yeah, torture will be out. I don't know why Bush is such a stickler for it. Numerous studies have shown that torture is an ineffective way of producing true confessions even without the horrific moral implications of it.

4. Prepare the photoshopped pics.
Every Congress Critter who votes against the amendment needs their picture with the word "Torturer" stamped across it in large letters. The pics must have clear names, party and state. I have no doubt that all will be Repugs. We need to send this message clearly and unambiguously. That would be one way to do it.
