single-income families NOW
I'm listening to On Point right now and they have a talking head on from the Heritage Foundation talking about how the "breakdown of families" is the CAUSE of poverty. so, if you're poor, it's your own damn fault for not marrying well.

for me, this completely lays bare the POVERTY of the conversative agenda.

people aren't poor b/c they can't stay married.

they are poor b/c you can't make ends meet on two incomes, let alone one.

this argument is so WEAK all it takes is turning it around to show the "poverty" in the conservative meme -- it's not failing marriages; it's failing PAY.

if they want good old-fashioned families, then provide good old-fashioned salaries.

1. Let' extend that last statement
if they want good old-fashioned families, then provide good old-fashioned salaries and good old-fashioned prices. The one thing that hasn't fallen with wages is prices. If companies want to pay workers less, then they need to be willing to take less profit. Didn't anyone teach them about scale in those fancy MBA programs?

2. Chicken and egg theory.
Poverty could easily be the CAUSE of the breakdown of families.

Financial stress is the #1 cause of divorce.

3. Brownback is on the Senate for trying to convince
the nation that marriage solves all problems for children, from poor grades to depression to financial wellbeing. Where do these politicians come from? Have none of them ever come up the hard way? Are they all Ivy Leaguers or the sons of professionals? Have they never faced adversity in their lives?
