Here's something that concerns me about Fitzgerald's investigation

"Inaccurate Info May Help CIA Leak Probe"

Miller disclosed this weekend that her notes of a conversation she had with I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby on July 8, 2003 stated Cheney's top aide told her that the wife of Bush administration critic Joseph Wilson worked for the CIA's Weapons Intelligence, Non-Proliferation, and Arms Control (WINPAC) unit.

Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, never worked for WINPAC, an analysis unit in the overt side of the CIA, and instead worked in a position in the CIA's secret side, known as the directorate of operations, according to three people familiar with her work for the spy agency.
...
"My notes contain a phrase inside parentheses: 'Wife works at Winpac.' Mr. Fitzgerald asked what that meant," Miller wrote.

"I told the grand jury that I believed that this was the first time I had heard that Mr. Wilson's wife worked for Winpac," she wrote. "In fact, I told the grand jury that when Mr. Libby indicated that Ms. Plame worked for Winpac, I assumed that she worked as an analyst, not as an undercover operative."

I'm not sure if this is referring to the recently "found" notes or not.

Is this perhaps an after-the-fact fudging of notes to make it appear that everyone involved innocently thought that Plame wasn't undercover?

1. Why would a reporter "assume" anything?

2. the investigation no longer depends on that one statute
by all accounts, it has moved way, way beyond the Intelligence Identities Act.

3. Here's something that concerns me about it...
Remember the Iran-Contra Scandal? There were indictments in that as well, and criminal trials, and a couple people went to jail. But it seemed to have no effect on the trajectory of American politics: Reagan left office as a popular President, and Poppy Bush won the White House specifically as Reagan's successor - not from any special love for G.H.W. himself.

Reagan had "plausible deniability" - Bush has it also.

So will Plamegate end up like Iran-Contra? Just another Big Fat Nothing?

4. Something is fundamentally different this time.

Iran Contra affair didn't cross the CIA. In this case the * clowns decided to take on a CIA agent and her husband to get revenge and/or teach everybody in the CIA and elsewhere a lesson. BAD IDEA. Nobody with a grain of common sense outs a CIA agent. I think this administration is toast.

5. Does Miller Still Have ANY Credibility???
I mean it does seem she's had a one-sided, inside view of things!

And we're ALL just speculating anyway! It's like waiting for Christmas when you were young. I just hope I get the present I asked Santa for!!!
