Libby Obstructed Justice (in writting and through his attorney)
Edited on Sun Oct-16-05 11:20 PM by usregimechange
The Sept. 15 letter from Libby to Miller, where Libby indicated to her that he wanted her to testify, included the following sentence:

"The public report of every other reporter's testimony makes clear that they did not discuss Ms. Plame's name or identity with me."

I believe that sentence is evidence of obstruction. He was telling her, "you can testify as long as your testimony exonerates me."

Miller's attorney confirms:

According to Ms. Miller, this was what Abrams told her about his conversation with Mr. Tate: “He was pressing about what you would say. When I wouldn’t give him an assurance that you would exonerate Libby, if you were to cooperate, he then immediately gave me this, ‘Don’t go there, or, we don’t want you there.’ ”

Mr. Abrams said: “On more than one occasion, Mr. Tate asked me for a recitation of what Ms. Miller would say. I did not provide one.”

1. You mean he was insinuating that she should testify but not against him?

2. Yes, and his attorney was trying to work out that deal.

4. Interesting thought about the Miller/Libby conference call
Edited on Mon Oct-17-05 12:24 AM by 8_year_nightmare
when she was seeking his permission to testify: I get the impression that Libby was talking for the benefit of Miller's two lawyers who were listening in when he told Miller "he hadn't fully understood that (Miller) might have been going to jail just to protect him. He had thought there were other people whom (Miller) had been protecting."

Sounds like he was using the opportunity to let it be known that he wasn't the only source blabbing to journalists about Plame's identity. If I were Libby at that moment, I would have measured my words carefully & said nothing I wouldn't want the world to know.

Something else I found interesting in the article was the fact that Miller was "very frightened" about entering the NYT newsroom for the first time after being released from jail. In fact, "she called her friend Ms. Payne and asked her to come downstairs and escort her in." I think Miller's sense of guilt was causing her "fright" at seeing a roomful of insightful journalists who likely have Miller's number.
