Arianna Huffington: 2008: Will Al Gore Be the Anti-Hillary?
Edited on Sun Oct-16-05 07:42 PM by Jon8503
Al would be my choice. I too agree as many Hillary was wrong in supporting the war. It is my feelings, she did not have to support it because she was safe in her State of New York where they like her and she has done a good job. I feel she supported the war more for her own benefit & run in 2008 rather than what was the right thing to do. I am sure we here on DU are split on this as well.
=====================================================================

The Article:

It's still three years away but Hollywood is already starting to choose sides for 2008. And two very distinct camps have started to form: those backing Hillary, and those desperately searching for the anti-Hillary.

Hillary is descending on L.A. this week, with a small Democratic strategy session planned for Thursday at Ron Burkle's home with, among other Hollywood players, Haim Saban and Rob Reiner, and a trio of fundraisers Friday and Saturday at the homes of Reiner, Bruce Cohen, and Marta Kauffman.

The devoted Hillary-ites include deep-pocket donors like Saban, Steve Bing, and Alan and Cindy Horn.

The Hollywood insiders who are not going the Hillary way are not ready to go public yet (I'm sure some of them will even be at the Hillary fundraisers this weekend). But, in private conversations, a growing number of them say they are determined to find another candidate to support.

Even though they backed both of Bill Clinton's White House runs and Hillary's Senate campaign, they've had enough of Hillary's attempt to rebrand herself as a fence-straddling DLC Dem. They're tired of the relentless strategic triangulating, the all-too-predictable attacks on video games (Sistah Soljah, meet Grand Theft Auto), the willingness to go along with President Bush's missile defense fantasies (one of only six Dems to do so), and the endless photo-op-ready partnerships with the likes of Bill Frist, Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich.

2. Gore said he's not running
That's fine with me. BTW, I'll believe this report on Hollywood "insiders" when they're more than anonymous sources. I'm not even sure Hillary's running in '08 anyway.

Personnally, I want someone new, not Gore or Kerry. We need fresh blood. I saw a poll that had Gore trailing McCain by almost 30 points. Ouch!

3. Hillary supported the war. She'll be her own "anti-Hillary!"
Edited on Sun Oct-16-05 07:46 PM by autorank
The lack of coverage should not be construed as indicating nothing much is happening in Iraq. It is profound, and it's damaging our country, our armed forces, and the Iraqis. The horror show has not yet begun. Wait until that happens and people remind the Democratic primary voters that Sen. Clinton supported this war. She'll be toast.

4. why talk about 08 when we need to be organizing for 06?
Let's get progressives elected in 06 so we can stop the destruction!

6. Al Gore is still my president
the presidency was stolen from him, I hope that there's a way
to restore his win once the dust settles on the neocon coup and
pre-emptive invasion of an oil nation

7. Al is too smart
to take another beating. A strong candidate is needed, not an anti-hillary. As D's we need to stop thinking in black and white. I don't like hillary as a candidate i believe she would crumble under the weight of the past and the fire of the republican slime machine. 2008 cant be a rehash of the past. We need a strong leader who can communicate with all americans. we do not need a bloodless technocrat that has done very little other than feather her own political nest.

12. Have you heard Gore speeches lately?
Gore is becoming a strong candidate. He is passionate, fiery, and outspoken on the issues that matter most to him. He is no longer championing Bill's policies, he is fighting for what he truly believes in. Gore has become more progressive and is could the right candidate in 08.

8. I like Hillary. But I'll jump over ten Hillarys to get to one Al Gore..
or Wes Clark. I'm also getting turned off by her wishy-washyness. Now is the time for a leader to emerge. People, not just Dems are looking for a leader. Not a weather-vane. The first person to emerge as a leader will get the lion's share of the support.

11. The only people I hear say that Hillary will be the nominee are Rethugs
I doubt we would be split on this here at DU. I would say 2/3 would go for Gore.

I am hoping that Gore or Feingold are the Anti-Hillary choice. I would support either of them anyday and then hope they name Obama as VP.

13. I'm with you there
For the most part the folks dropping the Hilary is a lock meme are repukes. They've got so much hate invested in the Clintons that they just can't let it go.

I seriously doubt that she gets the nomination even if she does run.
