fundies reason things out, and jump through mental hoops to justify their actions when they conflict with their stated principles. When I was a Southern Baptist (not one anymore) it was well known that the wife of W.A. Criswell, the pastor of First Baptist Dallas, taught a (horror) mixed Sunday School class (Mrs. Criswell was teaching MEN...OMG).
When confronted with the hypocrisy of his wife teaching men, while at the same time preaching that women should not do so (and, BTW, a Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, TX gave the same reasoning when it hired a woman to teach in the theology school)--Criswell said that his wife was teaching under his, her husband's, authority--so, that in reality, he was the one teaching the class through her.
It's of course a bunch of BS, but that's the reasoning behind their blatant inconsistencies.
James Dobson has come out in favor of Miers nomination, even though he is on record as opposing gambling, knowing full well that Miers headed up the Lottery Commission in TX....And, Ralph Reed, former head of the Christian Coalition, who has publicly stated his opposition to gambling and the lottery, and who is running for Lt. Gov. of Georgia allegedly accepted money from a group to fight against a ban on gambling (Abramoff involved here.)
Disconnect is right.
