Senator Harry Reid wants our opinions/input!
Edited on Wed Oct-12-05 09:09 PM by NVMojo
Got this in email tonight:

Dear NVMojo,

In the two weeks since we launched GiveEmHellHarry.com the incredible level of activity on the site has continually amazed me. Since Thursday alone, more than 25,000 letters to the editor have been sent to over 580 different newspapers around the country promoting Democrats' Energy Independence 2020 agenda and we will not let up. During the next few weeks we will continue to hold oil companies accountable for their price gouging and promote our plans for an energy independent future.

This week I am at home in Searchlight, Nevada. One of the great things about being outside of DC is talking to people, hearing their stories and listening to how government can help make their lives a little better. It got me thinking - we are an online community of more than 130,000 thousand people. I would like to talk to you just like I talk to people in Nevada. I want to hear your stories.

Why is it important to you that Democrats take back the Senate in 2006? How have rising gas prices affected your life? Are you satisfied with the quality of health care you receive? How have increased college costs affected your family? How have you benefited from Social Security? Do you have relatives serving in Iraq? Are you a veteran? What are the values you care about?

We will read your stories, and share some on our blog. (Unless you don't want us to.)

Please take a minute and share your story:

http://giveemhellharry.com/page/petition/story

I look forward to hearing from you and reading your stories.

Thank you,

Harry Reid

1. Sounds Interesting... Is It Real???
Any Democrat in Congress would only need to check out DU and other websites like this to find "the answers" to all of "the questions!"

But I'm heartened by the "call to arms" of sorts! Democrats need, BULL HORNS, BACK BONES, AGENDA, and LEADERS!

So saddle up and start riding!

3. I don't know what you mean? Should I post my email postscripts
from the GiveEmHellHarry.com elist that I received this from? I signed up on his website the day it launched to receive emails. You can too...

I know one of his staffers in DC very well and I've pointed him to key posts and threads on DU in the past. They know about DU. But when a constituent contacts an elected official personally, it is more effective. That's what he's asking for. Respond if you can! Thanks!

5. Here's mine:
I went to college on the "17-year-plan." I took classes as I could afford to, one here, one there. I planned coursework around my family and my job. After graduating and beginning to move up a little on the job, I finally landed a position for which I was well-suited, and which I LOVED. I was involved in corporate training and development, working with new hires and existing employees, to maximize their potential and to enhance their skills.
Then the company honchos decided that $8 an hour, our entry-level wage, was exorbitant, and moved the operation to Canada. (They did NOT, of course, give up their OWN jobs, nor take pay cuts, nor benefit cuts, in order to contain costs). I spent six weeks, off and on, in Canada, training the people who would eventually replace me and about 400 other American workers.
$8 an hour is hardly a "living wage."
And yet, it was "too much" to pay, while at the same time, the corporate pigs slurping at the trough were building themselves a new office suite, complete with a lake on the manicured grounds, and a private exercise club within.
I am now making $6 an hour less than I was, and the company for which I currently work is owned by a billionaire who owns a professional sports franchise and doesn't blink about paying a foul-mouthed, underperforming athlete millions, while at the same time saying that the company can't pay a living wage to the people on whose backs he built his fortune.
We must end corporate greed; we must ensure that companies pay pro-family wages; we must ensure that the rich don't win the class warfare they are waging on the poor; we must cut government pork; we must return to TRUE morality, not the shallow, "made for TV" version promoted by political figures posing as religious leaders.
And we MUST take care of our future by ensuring that alternate energy sources are developed, so as not to poison our planet and deplete the precious resource of the only home we have.
End Wall Street welfare...stop subsidizing the multi-billion-dollar corporations at the expense of working American families.

8. Damn, Mojo we almost started "Give 'em Hell Harry!"
But somebody at KOS will get the credit;)
=====================================================================
I'm sick and tired of America surrendering its election process to three major voting machine firms (Diebold, ESS, & Sequoia) that are run by extremely partisan Republicans AND I'm even sicker and more tired of the nonsense that our elections mean anything.

We vote, it goes into hardware and software owned by these vendors. We never see the vote again until the vendors do the tabulation and give us the results. Then, when we ask to see how their system works and do a real audit, they tell our elections boards, "no no, it's a trade secret."

We've OUTSOURCED our elections. There is no reason to think that anyone elected really got elected if electronic voting is used. It's that simple and that sad.

When will people wake up to this.

There is no need for these machines, paper ballots, hand counted WITH WITNESSES, public announcement at the precinct level, and let the world do the tabulation. GET RID OF CORPORATE VOTING. It's the death of democracy.

This IS THE ISSUE. No verified ballots from machines-- the machine can give you a ballot that says one thing and count the vote another way. That's common knowledge of any high school computer student.

Enough! Help us take back democracy or don't expect to win a majority of anything ever again.

I'm tired that nobody will speak up for the obvious and clear issue of voting rights -- we have a right to vote and know that it was fairly counted. With machines, that right goes away. The government needs to be legitimate but it is not anc cannot under electronic voting.

Why is this hard? There are not more than one or two thousand crooks in this country that oppose voting rights, verified by real ballots owned by the public not Diebold.

Don't ask anymore without addressing this issue.

I've been touting you to friends and colleagues since you got the job. It's not time to stand up for democracy.

He's lost on every issue so far. Barbara could only do better.
