3. # 45. Our governor, Blagojevich, has really got his work cut out for him.
Edited on Sat Oct-08-05 12:56 PM by terrya
A 20% drop in the polls is extremely serious, to put it mildly.

He has $15 million in the bank for next year, though. No real challenge from the Republicans (now that former governor Jim Edgar decided not to run)

17. There was a poll out the other day with Rauschenberger beating Blago
and a host of GOP no names competitive with him.

That Survey USA poll had Bush more popular in Illinois than he is.

Blago has the fight of his life ahead him, because in general, pols with approval ratings in the 30% range don't get reelected.

21. Blagojevich sucks.
I can't stand the guy. The Illinois Democratic party, outside of Durbin and Obama, is pretty much a bunch of suck-asses, as far as I'm concerned. And Daley is the most corrupt mayor in America.

27. Is not . . .
. . . the simple fact that there is a (D) after his name does not make him "a trillion times" better than Ryan. The G-Rod is under investigation now too, btw, as are some of his top aides. More corruption.

Blagojevich has based his gubernatorial career trying to gain the national spotlight so he can run for President - probably in 2012. Instead of actually tackling important issues here in IL, he has spent his time and political energies making sure that violent video games are not sold to minors in this state.

I'm sure there's probably a case to be made on this issue, but to make this your number one priority is just ridiculous.

We need a real Democrat in Springfield, not another Daley-ite criminal.

29. It's not my number one priority, where'd you get that?
After 30 (or does it just seem like 300) years of pug governors like Edgar, who mutilated the state mental health system, etc., smiling all the way and then Ryan with his bribe/license crap, closing extremely well-regarded juvenile schools (St. Charles) close to the parents and opening new ones out in the middle of nowhere where the parents can't visit, etc., Blago seems relatively normal.

5. Look at the two tied for #6
especially Mark Warner. I heard him speak at the JJ Dinner last month in Charleston.

If some Democrats could get their heads out of Hillary's rear end long enough to listen to him, we might find our '08 candidate. He's self-made, eloquent, and knows how to work what he calls the "sensible center."

Instead of mooning over a vanity candidacy, let's have a look at Mark Warner.

15. They yearn for "Candidate Clinton"
just like we now know they ached for Candidate Kerry. Because they're both easily defeatable and even more easily slimeable.

If Hillary runs, every last sleazy Repiglican will fly out from behind the baseboards where they live and start shooting watermelons in the backyard all over again and wandering around backwoods Arkansas airports. We'll have to listen to the "Hillary Special at KFC" jokes ("2 small breasts and a left wing"), and everyone will talk about what a "liberal" she is. I could vomit just thinking about it. And in the end, we'll wind up with President McCain or Giuliani or whatever sick, evil, twisted little warmonger the corporatists decide we need.

We're dealing with the "long-knife" crowd. Do we want a sacrificial lamb or a real candidate?

Gov. Fletcher is embroiled in the Merit hiring scandal, "pardon all who were indicted and all future indictments", and ran on the platform of "Cleaning Up the Mess in Frankfort." He's been cleaning up, alright!

are looked on favorably in this area. Mass thinks Mitt is nuts and RI thinks that Don Carcieri is too. Mitt is running for president and has changed his views 180 degrees.

That's 25% net approval for a Democratic governor - not bad for a Red State.
